I have a friend on this site. I am 100% new to photography. I LOVE LOVE LOVE photography. I have always been fascinated with it, never any ambition to do it. It is Matt's (my friend) fault but I finally bought a basic camers (Canon Digital Rebel XS) with a lens kit (18-55mm). I really don't know what I am doing much but I have a LOT of fun taking pictures of my 2 kids. I am really interested in children, family, and portrait photography. More-so than any landscapes and stuff. So, Matt said he learned all he knows on this site . . . where do I start?

If Matt led you to join this site, he is probably not really your friend.
Nevertheless, Welcome!

Who's this Matthew you speak of?! Hahaha!

(PS It's me)

Welcome, glad you joined!

Now you need to add your camera and lens to your profile my clicking "My Home" and then selecting "My Preferences." This way people don't think you're trying to sell stuff.

Sorry for introducing you to an addictive site. I claim full responsibility. Tell Chris you blame me.

what's an update button?

Are you SURE you want to know??

When you enter a challenge your stats for voting, including your score, show up on the left side of your homepage. If you have a blue shirt (paid member) there's a button that updates your score every time you click (which is usually about every .2473 seconds, on average). Registered users have their score updated 10 minutes past each hour.

It is DPC's Navel and nobody can resist poking at it.

And what it produces, for most of us at least, is usually about as satisfying as lint.

I think someone should mention that you do not get an update button until you are a paid member. I see that our new friend does not have a blue shirt yet (the avatars with the blue shirts are paid members)

Apparently, it's only Yanko'd if people start thanking the person that gave the same advice after you did, and completely ignore the original advice giver.

Yeah, I thought of that last night but didn't want to revive the thread to post. Okay, is there any such thing as a half-yanko? At least Art rescued me :)

I bought a fourth monitor and reserved it for the update button only. It stays on 24/7 and nobody can come close to it except me because of the trip mines that I placed within a 20 ft perimeter. ;]

Welcome :D

I bought a smartphone for the sole purpose of being able to update while at work and not get fired. Oh and bringing it to bed to update under the covers at 2 am.
