The Radiant Vista, by far the best photography teaching and learning site on the Internet, is gone forever. R.I.P.
It happened on October 24th, 2008 but many just learned of it today via email.
It is a sad passing for anyone interested in learning Photoshop and the art of photography. The Radiant Vista was the best of the best.
This is the photographic equivalent of the breakup of The Beatles rock group. The individuals responsible for making it a great single-source teaching and learning site have split up to pursue their own individual projects.
It is unknown what happened to all the accumulated tutorials and evaluations but there are now three separate sites to check out:
Mark S. Johnson's Site (author of the best online photoshop tutorials ever made and did the Photoshop Workbench)
Mark S. Johnson Photography
Craig Tanner and others from The Radiant Vista(The Daily Critique, Podcasts and other contributions)
The Mindful Eye
Matthew Gibson bidding a sad and hopefully temporary farewell :(

All the stuff is still around.
They just want to charge for some of it now.
Ooopps, forgot one. The rest of this one will cost you.

FWIW, the content on TME is all still free and there is a lot of new stuff.
Craig's always said he views it more of a service project than as a way to make money (the workshops provide that)

Yes, I registered at The Mindful Eye, it's all free as far as I can tell, except of course the live workshops. Unfortunately for me it's still all in video format, with voice over, so it's useless to me. This was always my problem with Radiant Vista, which otherwise I loved.

It is majorly too bad the videos don't work for you. I'd never thought about that much before you just now mentioning it. That is a bummer :(
For other folks I'll mention that Mark Johnson has video tutorials at his site as well and he is adding new content there.
As Gordon mentioned, The Radiant Vista folks did not make their money from the web site. They made it from their workshops and from book sales. The web site content was always free. They have carried that concept over into their new ventures and new web sites. |
