I'll be watching it in about 45 minutes. lol. I'm house-sitting, and although they supposedly have broadband, it's slower than any dial-up I've ever seen. Brutal.

I'd bet that in the same amount of time some people spend playing Guitar Hero, they could actually learn how to play a real guitar.

Many people, like myself, do both.

Imagine that.

But, from what I've seen, playing guitar hero doesn't make you a better guitar player.

A lot of accomplished guitar players I know actually struggle with the game, because they find themselves actually playing the songs rather than playing the game. :)

Hah! I can so totally relate here! Took a bit of a paradigm shift for me to do okay.

No, but now that Guitar Hero includes a drum track and pseudo kit, there is some coordination to be learned that actually could apply to playing the drums. It's not really the same, but you do learn to move both hands and one foot independently, which believe it or not, can be a challenge for some :P

I don't know ANY intelligent person that thinks playing Guitar Hero will make you a better guitar player (or vice versa).

I do know a lot of people that love to make blanket judgments though

No kidding. I've actually done more Rock Band than Guitar Hero (same premise), and the drums totally confound me! Likewise a trapset will also confound me. I've played trumpet for 26 years, only one hand!

That is possibly the coolest video I've ever seen on Youtube. I can't imagine the man hours it took to put that together!

Kinda like the one you just made? (bold is mine) ;)

When GH first came out, a lot of people (intelligence had no bearing on it) that had never played it thought that it would be played the same as playing a guitar, and the mistaken premise was that guitar players would really like this game, and be better at it, because they were guitar players.

Totally not the same.

Pawdrix made the statement that the amount of time some people play video games, they could learn to play guitar.

You made the statement that you had done both, which led me to think that somehow you thought the two were connected.

I was simply stating my observations based on what I know about the game and guitar players that become frustrating playing it.

No blanket statement about you, judgmental or otherwise, in any form or fashion. Not really sure why you are so quick to jump to the conclusion that I'm making blanket judgments (if, indeed, that statement was for me. Though it does seem to me that it is since you included it after quoting me).

No, it wasn't aimed at you personally, that was just timing.

Every time I get into a public conversation with someone about Guitar Hero or Rock Band, I can guarantee two things:

1) Someone will make a flippant remark about how it's not a real guitar/instrument.

2) Someone will make a flippant remark about how it won't teach you how to play a real guitar/instrument.

So it's just the accumulation of people being, well, people, and I'm simply tired of it.
