I can't believe how many bad images there are in this challenge. Some are technically OK but just pictures of objects containing metals. If the photographer hadn't specified the metal I would never have thought of the periodic elements.
After 57% voting I gave one 9 (well deserved!!), one 7 and the rest 5 or less (but then again, I am a troll after all! :) ). I really hope people are trying to shoot a nice photography and not just something that in some way passes the challenge theme.
Having said all this; my pictures aren't any better :) But I am starting to learn not to submit just to be in a challenge.
Sorry all and sorry in advance for all the negative comments, but I am trying to be constructive.
Would you have a mediocre picture of a coin or a yellow piece of sulfur in a 10 by 14 on your wall? I'm crossing my fingers that the other 43% of entries I haven't voted on yet will be good images with good photographic values - conveying the elements or not! :)
Good luck all!
edit: removed sentence describing a type of entry although there were more of the same. Better to be safe...

Hi TrollMan, I've got 7 comments, 6 loved my picture and only you didn't find it pleasing to your eyes, btw, this picture got sold exclusively, had to get permission to keep it in this challenge, now I wonder, what would this tell you?! :) but any way, your low score for my picture wont bother me '' as long as it is sold :) '' but I would've liked if you included in your comment what doesn't make it pleasant and how to make it better, this what we call a constructive critique, all due respect to your personal opinion and rating,
Cheers, |

Hmmm... not sure about the coin (maybe yes if I were a collector), but the yellow piece of sulphur sounds groovy ;) |

A "comment" on a challenge photo is just that; a comment. Good, bad, in-depth, one word, etc...a comment.
Challenge Photo Comment ->
A "constructive critique" is something else entirely and rarely do people have time to go in-depth while voting, nor do they need to. The best way to get a "critique" is to check the box for this when submitting a challenge entry - or - post your challenge photo to a forum thread after the challenge and request more meaningful feedback.

It appears that several posts are getting mighty close to violating forum rules for describing specific shots...
Back to the scores...
After 20 votes 5.1
After 66 votes 5.93
I like the trend here - I was really beginning to wonder if I had lost touch with what does well at DPC...not that it really matters...I love the shot and am happy to have it in my port...

To Trollman :
I am disappointed you didn't leave a comment for me.
I was looking forward to it after reading your "spiel"
I love anyones opinion when it comes to photography, or any of my art or art in general.
No one is wrong. Everyone has a say.
Don't you all just love it!
sitting at 5.5, better then the 5 I started off with.
Some great comments though! |

You will definitely get a comment from me in this challenge Jess. But it's past 1 am here in Norway (actually I'm in Sweden on business at the moment) and I need to get up early in the am. More comments to come. |

Somehow, in spite of several commenters who all disliked the same aspect of my entry, it is miraculously staying above a 5. Go figure. Reverse trolls?

Sorry! Trust me, I'm as surprised as you are about my score. I completely tried something different and it appears to have paid off. BTW a 5.6 is a solid score. |

Looks like I'm headed back to 4 land :( Heavy hitters doling out the severe punishment again. This shit is beginning to get tiresome. |

I would just like to say to Scalvert, re his comment on my shot, not everyone has your imagination or the tools to achieve the idea, especially when they're away from home on business.

Bless the anti-trolls, for they have raised my score to better than acceptable levels. Well, except for that TrollMan guy, he didn't like it - but at least he said why and that's awesome! And I still love my shot. :-) |

This is hard to piece together. I have 16 comments, 1 fav, and 108 votes and 259 views.... 15 Comments have been amazing - rave reviews and rapture all round (including from some of dem Beeg Honchos)...NEVER had such amazing response before, and yet I doubt my score will bump the 8th highest scoring image off my profile page...hovering at a border-line 6....?
I AM So pleased with myself however because I have moved so many and people have stopped to have a look and liked what they saw.... so well done Me whatever the score :-)
