This is exactly why I stopped commenting. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I've never gotten one of those infamous nasty PM's in response to a comment. Maybe I'm just lucky (or diplomatic).

reading through his comments I find him much nicer than my own personal monologue would allow... which is why i don't comment all that much

I like his style. So what if he uses the f-word sometimes? Most of his comments look really helpful.. some of them dont.. but I can live with that.

Good work .. if he is reading this.

I'm glad to see that many can appreciate that being blunt and to the point is not equivalent to being an asshole. It's actually too bad that he's not around anymore to see the responses to the OP (he hasn't logged in since early 2007).
It really is not great form to call out a voter/commenter in the public forums, and in fact, from the Forum Rules:

11. Do not attack other users. This includes "calling out" specific comments or commenters in a hostile manner. Personal attacks are never appropriate in a constructive discussion. If you disagree with another participant, address their points without attacking them personally. Be aware that others may have differing opinions of a personal attack, so use care when posting. Please note that this includes publicly "calling out" commenters (whether by name or not) in a hostile way.

IMO, the OP should review his post, as I personally think it runs afoul of this rule. I'll leave the thread open, since the responses and discussion are for the most part intelligent and reasoned responses thar others can learn from.

ETA: comments or posts that truly violate the Forum Rules or the Site Terms of Service should be reported using the "Report this Post" button.

slightly confused (ok, drunk) the thread title is 'I know there are some harsh voters out there...' but this thread is about comments not votes.
