I've been in the 5.3+ since coming back for the challenges .. I'll tell anyone my entry wasn't a ribbon winner but the current score I'm receiving really does blow me away. I know the faults in my image but I really don't believe the score should be this low. I more expected about a 5.0 for this.

Dang. I really wanted this one on my profile page. Where are all the people who hate it coming from, and why won't they ever leave feedback?

However, seeing how everyone else is getting beat up right now, my entry is holding up well.

I echo your sentiments here, Kat. I know that my entry is not ribbon winning calibre either but, by far, it's not worthy of this low a score. And, I've been watching others scores in here as well whose work I have admired for a long time. They are also amongst those in this thread and other threads, watching their scores plummet with no good reason for it. Glad that you have said what you've said.

LOL Michelle! I've got a feeling that if YOUR shot is scoring this low, there are others who are WAY below this! You may have to ride another challenge out for the Brown. ;) Can't wait to see which one is yours.

There's an award for most comments, most creative comments....wonder if there's one for the most browns? ;)

Yup, Steve...feel really good about that score! :)
I got a rather harsh and unhelpful comment from someone last night whose average in votes cast is a 4.3 and average received is a 5.03. Kind of telling us there where some of the lower votes are coming from. |

Well I hope that there are not too many that finish below this photo because that would be harsh. I knew going in that it was not going to be well-received, which is fine. And I got a great analysis from  yospiff about what is wrong with it lol. (Although I did expect MORE comments telling me how "bad" it is.) One person really got it tho, and that is cool.
I'd only change one thing about my photo, and if i had a do-over, I'd submit it again.

My guess is that the mirrors challenge will not be a high scoring challenge, in comparison to the smoke challenge. Guess we will have to wait and see. :)

Mirrors was MUCH more interesting to vote on. It has some variety...only so much of the same 'Smoke' you can take. |

| The previous posts gave me some thought. I wonder if the challenges that encourage more creativity tend to be overall lower scoring? Perhaps a lot of the the creative approaches don't tend to have broad appeal. |

That could be it, Steve. Perhaps, it's the fact that art of any kind is what appeals to each individual's tastes. When there is more variety to choose from, I think that it may make spread out the highs and lows. What is one person's cup of tea, is likely not someone else's so, one shot can get a 3 from one and an 8 from another which tends to level off the score average more. Whereas, in a challenge where many have the same idea, it can work for or against the score average. If 50 people all have similar ideas, it stands to reason that either people will vote according to who did it best or, they will stray completely from those who are all doing the same thing and vote higher on those who have done something different...OR, they could become simply bored and vote them all down out of pure boredom.
I don't get what works in here at all. Perhaps, people don't know what they like until the see it? Or, perhaps, there's some sort of a shift in tastes with newer members who are not liking the traditional DPC look and are voting lower or higher, depending on the content that just doesn't measure up to their tastes??? I'm at a loss, completely anymore. I say that we wait until DPCO is over and see if there's a pattern then. Right now, it's crazy in here to even try to figure anything out! :P |
