I've been looking at these side challenges, but don't know how to get onto one - they all seem to have been going for ages, and I'm not sure how to join one. Are these closed clubs, or is there one that I can join in on?

You can join the side challenges at any time. Just post a picture.
Generally, they start at the beginning of the month and end of the month.
There are "sign up" sheets for side challenges for next month in the forum section.
But feel free to post pictures now if you want to join an ongoing side challenge. |

No voting. Mostly they are there to challenge you as a photographer.
Great place to give and receive comments and see a variety of work/styles in general.
No hard set rules, just a challenge theme and a good community. |

| Yup, you'll get far more feedback than in a regular challenge, partly because we know you WANT feedback or you wouldn't be in there :) |

| But be aware that the number of comments frequently tapers off towards the end of the month, so jumping in on day 1 will get you a lot more feedback than joining very late. |

| one thats starting in november is a sports challenge if you're interested. they are still taking people as far as i know. |

Hey Trish,
There may also be a 'Slice of Life' side challenge starting up in November or December.  Ken was talking about it to  roz today. These are really fun and don't limit the type of image you post. Keep an eye out in the 'Side Challenges and Tournaments' forums and if you miss it, someone is sure to let you know.:-) |

There are a lot of very good side challenges; monthly side challenges, DPCO, Beat your average tourney, to name a few.
I try to run the FSM and currently it's in the sign up stage. It is a year long side challenge that is attached to DPChallenge.com monthly free study's. You are welcome to join. All you have to do is PM me letting me know you want to participate. Signup will continue till 12/31/2008 Midnight and the 2009 season will begin on 01/01/2009.
If you have any questions feel free to send me a PM or email and I will be glad to answer any question you may have.
