I think I've hurt my scores by not resizing my photo properly. I'm using Photoshop Elements. When I chose width of 640 pixels - the height changes to 480. I have constrain proportions checked and Bicubic is automatically set. Can someone please explain exactly how to resize for the best online resolution.
Thanks - Diane |

Another thing you want to consider is cropping your photos to improve the composition. The one entry I see in your portfolio is the speedboat. It's composition is static because it is centered. Also, there is some unneeded objects - the railing etc. that have a negative impact on the image. Composition, subject, lighting, image quality, and 'wow' factor are just some of the criteria that really impact scores.
Yes, resizing the images makes a bit of difference - and the tutorial will help get the most out of the photos you enter.
Here is an example from my own portfolio. The first image here is my first entry at DPC. I did not crop the image at all. Through some feedback here, I realized that cropping an image to remove unnecessary objects and space can make a huge difference.
Before Crop
After DPC Feedback.

Thanks for the information. I think I got it right this time. Thank you also for the additional information. This is the learning experience I was looking for. I'm taking what you've told me and applying it to the next challenge. I'm hoping!
Thanks again! |

Also be sure to set your jpeg compression to save the final entry as close to the challenge limit as possible without going over. If you use too much compression, you will start seeing blocky compression artifacts (or at least I will, when I vote on it), plus you will also lose detail and clarity to that compression.
