I just got home and opened a letter from the city of Montreal's cultural development dep't.
I had entered a contest back in the fall of 2003. We were to photograph Montreal's public works of art, scattered around the city, and submit the photo to a contest. I entered this photo:
When they announced the winners in December, I was not among the top 6, but......they are organizing an exposition of the top 50 photos, and I'm in there. WOOHOO! There were thousands of photos entered. The works will be shown in the historic Maison du Brasseur (brewer's house)in Lachine, which is now a museum, from May 23rd to August 29th. All the artists will be invited to the opening.
I'm so psyched!

Awesome - congrats!
Montreal has one of the best public photo things i've seen - its in the center of town - a street with billboards of local photographers images - was really cool.

I'm so looking forward to the show. I have not had a chance to see any of the other photos, but I'm sure they are great. We have lot's of talented photographers in Montreal. It's a great honour to be invited among them.
Unfotunately, they don't seem to have any digital (online) versions of the winners either, which is weird cause they have a website, with lots of other stuff on it. It's a big burocracy, so maybe it just takes them some time to update their site.
Anyhow, thanks for the kind words. It means alot to me as I owe alot of what I can see now (photographicaly) to this site, and all the helpful people that take part in it's community.

Mario
Congratulations! You must be very excited and or nervous :)
I love Montreal, especially the older architectural areas that are very much French/Canadian. I went there one year with a very close friend who had arranged to stay with very close acquaintances. They lived in an older area of Montreal and were a french speaking family. Luckily they did speak some english and my friend helped me out a lot with the french :) But it was a little rough when we went out walking and shopping at the local shops. The shop owners mostly did not speak any english.
I'm curious about something?
Does Montreal still operate "Terre Des Hommes", the 1967 World's Fair?
I went there several times and it was fantastic.
I know they operated it for sometime after the 1967 World's Fair was over.

Some of the buildings are still in use, but most are gone. They have created a biosphere in the big metal ball (I forget what was in there) and one of the other buildings has been convereted into the Montreal Casino. Big $$$. Also, the Grand Prix race track (Circuit Gilles Villeneuve) is on the island. Also many outdoor activities still happen there. It's a big green spce in the middle of the city.
That's about it.
Montreal's a great city. You should all come down for a visit. It'd be fun.
Thanks fir the comments.
