His health insurance tax credit is suspect in that apparently they will then tax health care benefits. The whole idea of another 300 billion to buy up distressed mortgages doesn't seem right. Gee I guess I should have bought a house I couldn't afford so the government could bail me out too.

The following doesn't make any sense based on what you said above.
Originally posted by dponlyme: I think I will probably vote for McCain simply because he has a better, more substantial, track record of reaching across the aisle to get things done and is closer to the center on most issues. He has leaned quite a bit to the right to garner party support but if he were elected would move right back to the center I think. Obama who is leaning toward the center in the election would also go back to the left if elected. Plus I favor a more conservative supreme court although too much of that is not good either. |

I really want to know. Throughout this entire election cycle I haven't heard of one single solitary thing. I have heard a ton about the people he associated with and that is not too flattering. I don't trust him. I don't know how anyone could without some evidence that he has at least a good character and sound judgment. If you feel he has these things then please provide me with your reasoning. Please DO NOT tell me why you don't want McCain to win. I really want to know why those of you who will be voting for Obama what it is about the man that makes you feel he is the right person for the job. Please try to keep it positive. Try to convince me because honestly I am getting closer to the fence as time has gone by and I'm looking more intently at the possibility of voting for him... at this point I don't think I can. |
I agree. There's hardly any accomplishments this man has. He's like the Manchurian Candidate without even being a faux war hero. |

No. He's saying the McCain's a "faux war hero". Personally, I think he's being too hard on McCain. :) |

What good is a serious question if you can't listen to the serious answers? In addition to some excellent links, you've got a thoughtful, off-the-cuff response from JMart. |

Or you could come to Canada. Reichschancellor Harper is probably a better option than President McCain. |

I'm voting for Obama based on the issues. Is there something wrong with that? |

I thought Harper was on his way out.
When I was in Toronto, last weekend, the CBC made the point several times that "Harper is taking the day off" as though he should be doing something. |

Yes, informed voters are generally frowned upon.

You were in Toronto? No, Harper will likely be elected again, though probably in another minority government. He should have been electioneering, but even the great Conservative propaganda machine needs to be oiled every other day. |

I think a week or two at a forced labor camp ... holiday spa in Myanmar would do wonders for your outlook. |

It's impossible to know a person from their tv presence. I guess the idea here is that swing voters are split on the issues so they are making their decision based on character. You're fooling yourselves. You can't find the measure of a man from the hype and dirt that is being flung now. Go back to the issues, measure them out, and base your decision on that. If you think Democrats are stronger on economy, then vote for Obama. If punishing immigrants and homosexuals for being different than you is more important to you than your economic self-interest, vote for McCain. If you're a Libertarian, forget about it. The free market is over. |

Honestly, resorting to that kind of childishness? (I don't mean you personally CP (I see the smiley), I mean Harper.)
You know who I would vote for? I'd vote for anyone that promised to forever outlaw any kind of attack ads in political campaigning. It's insulting to me as a person, and it's insulting to voters as a whole. All of our parties (and the U.S. parties as well), do it, and I'm simply fed up with it.
To the political parties: Tell me what you're going to do. Don't tell me what everyone else is or isn't doing, and KNOCK OFF THE DAMN PERSONAL ATTACKS.
k? thanks. I stopped going to Kindergarten 30 years ago.

No kidding. It's appalling how little the Conservatives are actually saying about their platform, and how much distortion and ad hominems they're actually willing to commit. That picture of Dion with his arms up is getting old. The "not a leader" mantra is empty and cynical. That bird poop thing was the ultimate insult to our collective intelligence, and I should be shocked if it did not drive at least some rational people to the opposition in droves. |
