This is going to be a low scoring challenge for me. I see lots of pictures that aren't abstract. |

Freaky. Same number of votes. Two more views but 2 less comments. Same score. My score is still creeping up though. |

After 99 views and 50 votes: 5.0800 with 4 comments. While not so happy about the score those who commented seem to like my entry – which is quite pleasing - thank you!!!
PS: was actually averaging 5.10xx-5.15xx range - but just got a 1... Ha, Ha!!! Thank you too :-D

When that happened to me, I submitted the original and contacted the SC asking them to check the photographer's comments for the processing details. That was okay. They were able to validate it. |

It's okay, just relax and feel whatever you want to feel. Be one with your emotions... |

I just do not know or can figure out how people can make money with abstract stuff |

5.3939 at this point today, without a single freaking comment. Not one.
I kind of wish I had a 3.x, at least I'd have people *telling* me something about it, even if it was bad. I'm kind of a little tired of always falling in the mid-5s, even though I shoot so many different things. |

Hope it stays there

Lucky I LOVE my image. |

I'm actually surprised at the number of comments people are getting. I only got two comments for my abstract black and white entry. Its really hard for many people (Perhaps most?) to give a detailed comment on something abstract. Its either "I like it" or "I don't like it".
Of course people like sherpet who have a background in art and formal training will be able to provide intelligent commentary.

I am not sure you could ask the site council if they could.
And the lesson is copy paste your processing into words and save.

You could always just send them some random letters and numbers and tell them here's your abstract editing steps. :P |

. I guess my idea of "abstract" isn't quite the same as e'rryone else's. I even have a comment that tells me so. :-/

This is going to be a very low voting challenge, except for the very few GREAT abstract emotive images that stand out.
With a 100% vote here is my breakdown of my scoring, for this difficult but very challenging, DPC emotive abstract challenge
1 -10
1 - 9
1 - 8
3 - 7
21 - 6
60 - 5
rest - 4

Thanks for explaining your process sherpet. It certainly makes a great deal of sense to look at the entries the way you did.
It would be very interesting (& perhaps entertaining) to comment on them in the same fashion... i.e. "[pre-title comment]Wow this is such a furious pattern that is so evocative of anger and hurt! [post-title] Oh my, love?!?? really? Love? Are you sure?"
:P
Originally posted by sherpet: I make it more clear why I did it this way.
I have studied all forms of art throughout my life, and it has been a huge part of my life. I have two art degrees, and it was a test on my part to see if I could see what the image was saying to me, re the emotion I could see, before I looked at the title.
I should have added I did look at the title, but not until I had an opinion on the emotion I felt with the image, that I was looking at.
Does that make sense to you, as I have love art all my life and visited galleries, whenever I could, especially abstract art where one can often, see, feel and almost touch the emotion that the artist was sharing with us.
I know this is different as we are looking at photography, but I still wanted to do it my way, to see if I could see what the photographer was trying to share with us, in his or her image.
I hope that makes it a little more clearer for you, and yes it is only my point of view.
Originally posted by JMart: Originally posted by sherpet: I actually voted on every image without looking at the title.
I wanted to feel the emotion of the ABSTRACT image, without any help from the title.
Some images have worked, but gee, there are a lot of images that are NOT abstract, let alone emotive. |
Sherpet, I can understand why you would look at them w/o titles. Still, I think the titles are important since making the viewer feel the emotion was only one option in the challenge. The "conveys an emotional quality" implies to me that being symbolic of an emotion rather than making someone feel the emotion w/o title also meets the challenge, so the title can be key to understanding what the symbolisms are. Of course, that's just the way I read it. :)
ETA: And yes, I agree, SO MANY of these are not abstract :o | |
