All right Gordon, you've piqued my interest... does that beast use the 8-color pigment-based inks? What paper are you using? How's the speed?

Smaller dot pitch than the Epson 2200, similar, but different ultrachrome pigment inks (it has a red and blue, matte and photo black, along with a gloss optimiser and the standard CMY inks)

I've tried matte heavyweight paper and the premium glossy photo paper - results are fantastic with both. Easily as good, if not better than the 780 I was using with colorlife paper - which is substantially more expensive.

Print speed is faster - no actual timing, but it is noticeably faster and much, much quieter too.

Down side vs the 2200 - you can only print letter size borderless prints. Upsides vs the 2200. Cheaper (by about $300) better gloss performance, matte and photo black at the same time, smaller droplet size.

Sounds like one sweet little machine! I assume that with the ultrachrome inks the print life will be very good as well.
I see it has 1394 I/O as well, very nice.
For under $400 it is tempting, as I don't have a real photo printer right now.

Lifetime is quoted at from 60 years to greater than 200 years, given correct storage, so life time seems quite good (!)

I'm using it with USB 2.0 - gives much faster spooling. Firewire would be about the same too. |
