I have always liked using borders on my photos, but I think I will stop using them on my DPC entries. Most of my comments on my photo this week are all about my border. Most don't like it, and I'm sure I'm losing points because of it. I thought it worked, but alas....what do I know.

Nobody ever leaves a comment such as: "I would score this higher if it had a border...", so from now on I will only enter my shots without borders, and keep my borders for any prints I do.

I got a lot of negative comments about my border as well but I don't know if I am going to stop adding them all together. Just need to do a better job at adding the right one.

I don't use them much anymore either. Seems no matter how you do it someone will comment "too thick", "too thin", "too gaudy". Maybe they should do away with borders all together.

Just when I was starting to use borders, you all stop.
Figures. LOL

Whatever you do.... NO YELLOW BORDERS. People around here hate yellow borders.

On my Off screen entry, almost all coments were about my border

Yeah, that blue border is an attention getter. I was thinking to mimic matting (black border only).
as in first place
or third place
I have seen some borders that pull a dominant color from the pic itself.
Or how about a thin line like this blue ribbon pic

Probably yellow or other bright eye-distracting colors are not good, but you did get second (congrats!) with this and it has a small black border.

So if 50% of the top 3 in the last 3 contests have borders, borders are not inherently evil. Cat pics, are another story though. LOL

I have actually stooped using borders on my prints. It seams that when I print one with a border, the process resizes the image and crops out parts of it. The end result is that the border is no longer even on all four sides. Besides, most prints end up getting matted anyway, so there is no need for a border.

In PS to add a border, or make space for one, you take the finished pic and increase the canvas size by x pixels on all four sides. You can then select that area (as it is white or black or the background color you chose before expanding the canvas).

I had a lot of comments on some of my shots regarding my borders!

Why did you choose a blue border?

I used the same border as your robin shot but strangely enough, I didn't get any comments about it during the challenge. Maybe it was the contrast between the white background and the black border that threw people off.

On the robin shot, the white background enhances the frame. On your flower shot with the darker background it enhances the shot.

Remember folks, don't put a really dark frame with a light colored background. It usually doesn't look good.
