I was lucky enough to visit my home state of Tasmania (southern island at the bottom of Australia) over March - a beautiful place with an abundance of good photo ops.
Just though I'd share a bunch with you.

Feel free to browse my web folder for more at

Those are definitely nice. I really like the lighthouse shot, in fact.

I am going to be spending a long time in Australia, possibly a few months, and am just too excited! Unfortunately, I will not make it to Tazmania, but I will be in and around Aussieland. Do you have any advice for shooting there? I am leaving in July.

These are great! What lens did you use?

Those are some positively gorgeous photos! Your use of the wide-angle lens on the landscapes really makes them "pop" - and I love the red and white striped lighthouse against that blue sky. You had a good month! I'd have had a terrible time choosing what to submit for free study with choices like that. :)

This was my other option for free study - I had it uploaded for almost the whole month before changing at the last minute. Any thoughts?

WOW you've got some great shots in your portfolio JC - especially love your "Loud!" shot for sound :)
As for your flower bouquet shot - the first flower arrangement in the free study came in at 32, and I think yours could have beaten that - so yeah I think you might have jumped a few spaces. But either of the two entries would are great.

Hey SuperDave - that's the one question I seem to get asked all the time from other 300D owners :)
I took ALL of them with the kit lens. Much easier to choose one, than lugging a whole bunch of lenses around, when all I really wanted was to get some great wide angle scenery shots. So the kit lens was the perfect choice. And it takes a pretty good picture too :)

Hmmmm...lighthouses in Australia...

Great photos!

I was wondering if it was the kit lens, I looked up the mtf chart
on it and really holds it's own! I have been pretty please with
the kit lens too but I haven't had a good opportunity to put it to use
like this.
Again, great shots!

I like the lighthouse shot best. Lots of color, very bright, clean lines

Yeah, the lighthouse shot is one of my favourites too.
Almost looks like a big striped lolly - good enough to eat (or maybe that's just because Easter is here and my mind has turned to chocolate)
;)

Great shots, all of them. Now I have lens envy 'cause I didn't get the kit, just the camera. It would have been a very good and inexpensive wide angle (the alternatives are many $$ hundreds). Let that be a lesson to you boys and girls.
