Please do see the OOBIE thread that Wildcard noted, but I'll take a moment to expand on the notion here: an OOBIE image is an out-of-the-box shot - an unexpected or subtle interpretation of a challenge perhaps, or maybe an image that uses an unusual or not-popular technique (camera-based technique or processing technique), or challenges us to reconsider what a "good" image might be, in our responses to it. It is also usually underappreciated by DPC in voting/commenting (often underappreciated to a great degree, from an average score perspective).

It's also important to note that the OOBie (and YAPpie) awards are given by Team Suck, a group of members with a somewhat ... different ... take on things. Team Suck moves from thread to thread as we wear out old ones, but here's the current incarnation.

That's why the award icons people can put in their profiles are suckers. :)
