I spent the afternoon playing with my 5-year-old, and was away from the house for a most of the day. When I got home, I got a call from my brother (who works as a photographer at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) who told me that People Magazine has been trying to reach me (how they wound up contacting HIM is beyond me!).

So I came down to my computer where I found an e-mail from a guy from a DIFFERENT newspaper, telling me that People had contacted THEM in their attempts to reach me. I never realized how hard I am to reach!

Anyway, I called the lady, who is an assistant photo editor, and it seems that there's a good chance that they're going to use one of my photos for the edition that comes out this Friday!

I'll save the other details for later, assuming that they're definitely going to use it. I'm quite excited about this possibility!

It's not some "work of art" by any means... just a matter of being in the right place at the right time with the right people :)

If the shot does indeed make it, I'll be buying PLENTY of copies!

Ok, ok, here's the scoop. I'm really trying my best not to jynx the whole thing...! :)

I don't know whether there are many Survivor fans here or not (I'm guessing probably not) but I do the web site for Amber Brkich, who was on the Australian version of the show, and is now on the All-Star series.

I went to a reality TV charity event last summer in Cincinnati, and I happened to get a shot of Amber with "Boston Rob," with whom she has become romantically involved on the show. At that time, they knew each other, but they weren't a "couple" at the time.

Their relationship has become one of the big storylines in the All-Star series, so this photo of them together has become a rare gem. (The "All-Star" cast members aren't able to be interviewed or photographed for things until after the series is over -- so it's a happy coincidence that I got a shot of them last year.)

I have no idea how the People Magazine folks tracked the shot down, or how they worked their way through my brother and another newspaper to contact me...!

This is the shot, which, like I said is more of a happy coincidence than Fancy Artwork:

Ah, so somebody here DOES watch it! :)

I wasn't fond of Rob during the Marquesas season, but he was pretty cool when I met him again a few weeks ago. Granted, that was at Amber's house in the presence of her parents and friends, and he was undoubtedly trying to impress everyone... but still... :)

Wow, that's awesome! Considering how popular survivor is, I'd imagine you could get a decent chunck of change for that photo if People magazine wants it really bad! Keep us updated on how everything turns out!

That is so exciting Alan! Congrats! I'm a Survivor fan (and The Apprentice, and...), so I know about Amber and Rob. =] Cool to know that you do her web site! Hope it all comes together and they use your picture!

DOnt watch the show but congrats! In the BIG time now!

I don't read People Magazine or watch Survivor but I'm familiar with these two from the bits of Survivor that I have seen.

As a photographer, I would love to hear some of the detail of this photo transaction after it happens. I have a few questions that I'll save until you are ready to discuss...

:)

Boston Rob rocks. We have an office pool going and I drew his name. Go rob. I hope you win the big $$$ and tag the girl too.

Good luck on this Alan! I hope to see your photograph in P.M. soon.
Maybe they'll add an interview as a bonus!
