I dont want to go into detail here so I dont bias things, but do you think the majority of photos in the purple challenge are the same idea repeated over and over? |

Just the purple challenge???...hmmm...I seem to remember this being the case of many of the challenges. The images are new to some people. Don't you remember when you first conquered that butterfly shot...or that moody portrait....it was a wonderful feeling. Right? Well now that same feeling is being experienced by others. What's more, is that when you first conquered that new success, others were saying what you are saying right now...ho hum...another one of those shots.
We may get tired of seeing the same shots...but you must remember that there are people of all levels on here and they, too, are growing and experiencing new things. So don't vote them down on that...instead give them an encouraging comment, one that they can learn from.

Couldn't have said it any better.
Hope it gets read by every new person to this site. Should be mandatory when registering, like a pledge of honour. lol

That covers half of the issue. It doesn't explain the phenomenon of the same people taking the same shots over and over again. |

Those are the people that need the most help. That are stuck in a quandary and need help to move on. Either you can leave them and expect to see more of the same repeat shots...or you can help them by leaving a comment to guide them into a new area, that might just inspire them to try a new area.
It could be just that they are too scared to try something new, in case they fail....or they just don't know how to move on and try something new. Whatever the case.....a comment or two could just make the difference.

I didn't see that, but here's my feeling on the issue - I have no problem with it being discussed AFTER the challenge, but whether you intend it or not, talking about individual photos or groups of photos during a challenge very likely does bias the voting. When I started voting on challenges here, I noticed after a couple months that what I was reading in the forums was definitely influencing my opinions of the images I was voting on.
Sorry for talking with my mouth full. Just thought I'd put out something that might be useful. :)
edit: Let me add that I have no problem with people voting down images they are sick of seeing duplicated. Vote how ever you like. :)

Still doesn't warrant discussing them during voting. |
