I experienced something while photographing my Purple shot. I had 2 different purples in one setup but when I viewed the pics one had turned to blue. I even called my son to ask him what he was seeing only to confirm what I saw. When I adjusted the lighting, it would turn back to purple and the other colour would shift to blue. Weird. I finally used only one purple colour. :|

I had a problem with going from photoshop to uploading here. In PS I had a beautiful rich purple and then uploading here it ended up either a funky pink or a blue - so I must be doing something wrong. I have no idea what it looks like now although I've already had someone tell me I did some illegal editing. No validation request yet tho...

Will I see my second 5.7 in a row? :) Well, I have the boring average challenge entry down pat.

Anyone else have issues with Blue fringes when photographing their purple things outside in the sun?

Do a search for "Purple in Digital Photography" and you'll see that it is one of the most ridiculously difficult colors to re-create accurately with a digital sensor.

I believe the blue fringe you are referring to is Chromatic Aberration

Yah, seems comments are hard to come by for the middlings. I'll be commenting more tonight when I'm at home. Maybe I'll hit yours on the off-chance.

You can get CA on any lens under the right circumstances. Of course, nobody can tell you what it really is without a sample

Its just that its a pretty high end lense and I have not experienced CA on it in the past. Additionally the fringe is not really like a CA as in it surrounds all portions of the image that are purple in a Very even Glow of blue as opposed to a fringe or edge like I have seen with my 1000mm setup which creates a noticable ridge of color normally only on one side of a given area(like the Red is offset) This just seems different.

Well as mentioned before, you can get CA's with just about any lens...

On what you are describing though it sounds like it could be over sharpening as well... If its a challenge photo make sure to post again about this or take another completely unrelated photo that will show the same and post it... :)

Oh fer gawd's sake, I know it's not a challenge winner. But it's in focus, not blurry, not oversharpened, the lighting and comp are decent, comments positive, and of yeah it's purple and has subject matter that I saw in no other shot.

What's with the voters these days, everyone taking troll pills?

It's just more of that warmth and glow you love so much with the old glass. :)

Katherine, I got one about an hour ago that dropped me to a 5.9, don't worry, the pretty voters will be along presently ;)

Good post!

That was no rant Alicia. I read that as a very good assessment of what is going on here. I continue to be astonished though about certain things around here but I will learn and accept them as everyone has in the past.

Well, I was feeling rantish on the inside. I'm learning to contain my big hot head.

Just, a thought if I may.

Perhaps you'd be better served emotionally, not to mention artistically, if you didn't spend so much time obsessing over each and every vote? I mean, spreadsheets are good and all if you're having fun with them, but if it gets to the point where you are having a personal affront every time someone votes you low and you know it because you can pinpoint it using mathematical equations...

It just might be time for a step back. Call me crazy.
