The architecture all over the city is great...
Take a tour of the Chicago river by boat - awesome views.
If it is extremely clear, go to the top of the Sears tower for a view that seems to go forever.
Not sure what is on, but Navy pier has a lot going on and lots to shoot
Go inside the look and get some shots of the L (elevated train system)
Go to the north side and check out the area around Wrigley field - a great old neighborhoood and a great little ball park...
I will leave more ideas for others to chime in...
Also, don't miss the Art Institute of Chicago - Not a photo op but boy is this a GREAT museum |

University of Chicago?
Bass is right. You can't go wrong in Chicago. Great group of DPCers there too. Maybe you can meetup. Try for the John Hancock tower at dusk, as the skies turn colorful and the lights come on all over the city.

I second bassbone and the Art Institute great museum but not a photo op. Millennium park right next to it is and was the location for my personal favorite:
The “Museum Campus” which includes the Field Museum of Natural History, The Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium offers nice skyline views.
If want to go up a big building, many people believe the John Hancock offers better views than the sears tower – shorter lines too.

Thanks.
Do they allow tripods at Sears tower or John Hancock building?
Does anyone know how far up the coast i would have to go to get some Lighthouse shots? My wife and i both love light houses |

Griz, there is a small lighthouse quite close to Navy Pier, otherwise I believe the next Lighthouses (to the North anyway, I don't know about South), are closer to Evanston.

I have never tried to take my tripod up the Hancock, as I hated carrying it around downtown, also, it's pretty busy up there, so I'm not sure how easy it is to use. It's about $15 to go to the Observatory, but free to go to the Signature lounge bar on the 96th floor. (Well, there's the price of a drink but ....)
Pic from the last Chicago GTG I attended, just before moving back to Europe!

I have nice memories of Chicago. The Art Institute is a gem. For photo ops that haven't been mentioned yet, I'd suggest hanging out under the El train tracks downtown for some funky urban shadows.
Union Station is cool, too (check their photo policy, of course). A lot of movies have been shot there, including that great station scene in The Untouchables. |
