A lot of people tell me that my photography is very much like the American artist 'Georgie O'Keefe'.
//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_O%27Keeffe
//www.artst.org/okeefe
//images.google.com.au/images?hl=en&q=Georgie+O%27Keefe&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title
I had no idea who she was but can remember looking her up at 'Google' re the above web sites and can see why so many think my works it like her paintings.
Here are some of my photographic images that are similar to some of her paintings, and have comments actually saying that these images remind them of some of Georgie O'Keefe paintings.
As I said I had no idea who Georgie O'Keefe was, until some comments were made on my photos. She is not well know at all here in Australia. I now feel quite honored to have some of my images compared with her paintings.

I knew about Georgia O'Keefe - but then, I studied a bit of Art History. She had an interesting studio out in the desert of New Mexico. One of the most important female artists of the last century. ;-Þ

I also did my 'Diploma of Art' and also 'History of Art', here in Australia, but never came accross Georgie O'Keefes work, until I joinged DPC, and had my photographic style compared to her painting style, and feel very honored indeed.

Maybe you saw the documentary series "American Visions" by Robert Hughes. I'm sure she was featured in that. However, the series was made back in 1997... ;-Þ

No, I have not, and also that was before my DPC time. I have done some research into her paintings on the web, and like what I see, and think we have a similar eye to design and style.
Again, I an very honored to have some of my floral images compared to her style of painting, very honored indeed.

Historical sidenote: Georgia O'Keefe was married to Alfred Stieglitz, one of the most influential figures in the development of photography as an art form. Google him up :-)

Bite your tongue. The flood of 1953 is recent history for me :-)

Shez, you know what you need to do? Use one of those places like LuLu (ask Judi, she knows of places) and make a calendar - a square one of course! Pick some of your best florals (that will be hard - you have TONS of outstanding shots to choose from!) and be sure to include that agave plant (this one):
I think cgino also knows a cool site to do calendars and such. Then when you get that all set up, let us know so we can order one. I'm thinking they'd also make great gifts! |

I second all of the above.... your work is very similar and just as beautiful! I have been privileged to view a number of her original works and your work has the same spirit.
My family and I stayed at Ghost Ranch, one of Georgia O'Keefe's homes in New Mexico, September 13-14, 2001. It was a magical place, and the perfect place to be during such a stressful time for my country. We were supposed to have been flying to Alaska for my brother-in-law's wedding, but of course could not, since all planes were grounded. We sat outside at night and watched the stars - with no planes flying, it was perfectly quiet. The ranch is used for spiritual and artistic seminars now. The guest houses are small and very rustic - no phones, radios, or TV's, and the library is open for research 24 hours/day. Meals are organic and made mostly from foods grown on the ranch. We were able to stay there without reservations because scheduled seminars and reservations were canceled due to 9-11. I took lots of pictures there (all film!) and would like to go back someday with digital equipment and participate in the seminars.
I think of that time every time I see one of your wonderful images. Thank you!!!
edited to add:.... and I too would LOVE to purchase one of your calendars :)

I made a brief survey of on-line museum collections in Australia & made searches for Georgia O'Keeffe (artist name & works)
It is quite possible the only work by Georgia O'Keeffe existing in Australia may be privately held. I could not find anything in the museum collections.

Thanks everyone for your suggestion for me to have a calender made of my 'square crop' flower images. I will look into it, and let you all know.
