So, I make a video for each of my portrait clients. I show it to them on their preview day. Today I upgraded my version of Proshow Gold (apparently I missed a vew upgrades) and boy, howdy! I'm a kid in a new candy shop. There are so many more options and it totally sparked my creativity. Here is the video I churned out this afternoon.....

Me too?
BTW, are you using Gold or Producer? Some of the effects you used looked like Producer.

Yup, will send in a sec..... I'm using the upgraded Gold (3.2). It supports LAYERS! My kid can layer videos. Looks very much like animoto. Horray for layers!

Ah... I specifically purchased Producer two years ago because I wanted layers and Gold didn't have them. Layers add a lot of benefit to the package.

I've also upgrade to Adobe CS3, which includes the Premiere and other Video/DVD software.
I went for the ProShow Producer about a tear ago. The learning curve is much less then Adobe products. For any tweaking I can go use CS3.
The ProShow allows you to disable copying of the DVD you create. I'm not sure how copyproof it really is.

cindi - you did a really nice job with the technical aspects of putting together a rather complex video presentation. Proshow Gold seems quite nice for that. I remember several years ago when I was involved with public access tv we got a new advanced nonlinear video editing setup (Panasonic Postbox) and for a while we were all sort of infatuated with the special effects, transitions, etc. Loads of fun! The music was nice as well.
However...and I hope that you will take this as just one old fart's opinion...I would so much prefer to actually see a straight cut (or at most a short blend) transition, full frame, with no animation, spins, zooms and other "eye candy". Those things detract from the beautiful photographs of yours. There is nothing like a full screen static image for me. I love to be able to let my eye wander and concentrate on features - especially with babies! I don't want to mix video and photography. I got very frustrated watching the show. I could never "settle in" and was having the feeling of constantly being led around, bouncing from point to point, finding that just as I started looking at an image it was morphing and moving, twisting, turning etc. The show seemed more about the production than the baby - I'm sure you get the idea!
IMO a photographer of your caliber doesn't need to rely on gimmicks - quite the opposite. Your work stands on it's own and I'd have loved to have been able to really see it!
Is it just me? |

Producer for $50
Does this sound too good to be true for Producer?

I tend to agree with you... but I think our "younger clientele", having grown up with video games and movies that have non-stop action, have gotten to the point that static images don't impress them.
I tried an Animoto slide show of my images as well as a ProShow version that I produced (with minimal cuts & motion effects). Us "older folk" really like the ProShow version and the younger people thought the Animoto version was really cool. I think for weddings I'll stick with ProShow and take a minimalist route. But for Seniors (as in the "young" kind of senior) I'll probably play more with Animoto.

On the website it states:

Looks like piracy to me, though temping as it may be I will shy away from that deal. |

Just my opinion, I'll put one on YouTube this weekend so I can get some opinions, too. I may have to get a photo-release.
liked
the sequences where the little girl hugged/smelled the flower
seemed to wave with her left hand
not liked:
the IMHO, motion for motion's sake only
such as; transitioning from Normal to really tiny
liked the Wedding - Life Begins one better
Zooms in for a closer view, then visa-versa
nice flower girl moon walking across
I try to Alternate Zooming-In/Zooming-Out.
I think, too much in One-Direction seems like Falling.
1) I tried a setup where it zooms in faster, then pauses slightly at the "max-enlargement".
thus allowing to grasp what you were "zooming in" to see/emphasize.
2) ditto of the above, pausing slightly, then zooming out to Reveal
where the Detail was coming from.
not liked
the rotating photo Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise
Some transitions are great for Titling,
getting their attention at the begining or end
Many things DO depend on your Audience. |

I am using the program " Memories on TV" by CodeJam. I have the pro version, and I absolutely love it. I did download the first set of clip shows, and they are fun to use and can make your slide show really unique. This program also supports layers, and many other creative applications. I am going to start mixing still photos with video footage. Here is the website: //www.codejam.com/index.htm |
