For the first time in the 18 years I've been playing with cameras, I'm blocked. I can't for the life of me take a decent picture of anything other than my kid (he's easy :)).
This is going to sound odd, but I think the challenges here have actually contributed to my stagnated creativity. I've been so busy thinking about what appeals to voters, I seemingly have forgotten what appeals to me. I've tried to shoot more for me than the masses lately, but i can't even seem to do that anymore. My Free-Study is at an all-time low 4.8 or something, although the one comment i did get says it's the commenters favorite in the challenge - figure that out :)
Anyway I used to look around at other peoples photos for inspiration; now they just look like other peoples photos; there are some great ones, but they're not mine.
So how do I find MY photos again? I've considered opium, but that's not likely the best route. other suggestions welcome :)
Respectfully,
Pedro |

Probably some time off would help, I'm not a photographer just a hobbyst, I'm a designer and when I feel like that I always try to find a way to take a few days completely away, do some complete other stuff. It works for me. As for shooting to please voter son DPC I never did it and hope I never will. I don't care about the score, if I get a few helpful comments to learn from it's a win. But when I shoot I always try to like it myself first.

hi Pedro - I'm new here and just beginning to learn
....I find great peace and inspiration by getting up early and going into the garden or down to the local wetlands/beach with my camera and looking at the world and nature through the lens of my camera. The magical beauty that is there brings inner peace and provides an endless source of inspiration.
regards

I know what you mean. After "Road Signs Revisited" I was really bummed at the results and took almost a month 'off' from DPC. Granted I came back and got my lowest score ever, but since then it's all been so much better! ^_^
Figure out what you enjoyed to take pictures of before that made you happy and do that again. That's what got me back into it, I went back to taking photos of dogs and voila, 5.8. (my best score yet)

I usually shoot through it.
Go find something you are marginally interested in, shoot lots until you start finding your vision again.
Don't bother about challenge topics :)
Try some exercises and see how they work too.
I tend to have several on-going projects - usually some with simple, accessable themes, others that require a bit of work. If I get really stuck, I just revisit one of those and try for something new.
A road trip, even to somewhere 20 miles away that you haven't been to before can be enough to kick start things again too , make you see somewhere in a new light. Maybe go somewhere you haven't been and try to take 6 good images of that place - shoot 600 shots if you need to but get 6 interesting pictures of this place you haven't seen before.
Then maybe try the same thing with a place or a person you are really familiar with. Show them in a new light. |

That's awesome, G - thanks. I particularly like your Exercise link. Is that all yours or was it inspired? I'm going to take a day a try lots of those things and see what turns up.
I hope no one mistook this as a rant about my current score - that's largely irrelevant. What saddens me is I don't even like what I'm shooting these days. We'll see what the weekend brings. ;)
