When I posted to the games challenge my picture was disqualified because it had a single pixel border, now for the current challenge I'm afraid that my submission may also have a single pixel border. Is their anyway to check to make sure? I'm using Microsoft Picture IT which is really confusing to use, plus whenever I try to resize my picture to 427X640 with the aspect ratio it goes to 424X640 whats up with this? I really don't want to be disqualified, does anybody have any suggestions for me? They would be much appreciated. Thankyou. |

I have similar problems with the resize deal. I end up turning off "constrained proportions" and just setting it to 427 and it just works fine. As for the border, I have no idea because I don''t know that program.

If I get disqualified for something as stupid as single pixel border I won't be the happiest of the bunch. |

Chariot's suggestion about turning off the aspect ratio is your best advice. Also, I'm not sure this works with all Operating Systems, but I'm running Windows XP and I have my File Manager settings set so that, when I hover the cursor over the picture, it gives me both the size of the as well as the no. of pixels. Hope that helps.

Anyone who can get a proper cut from a larger image without using the contstrained aspect ratio is better with the mouse than I am :) I use the constrained aspect ration with width set to 640 and height set to 480 (or vice versa) and get the correct pixel ratio every time with Photoshop Elements...

John, is that after you crop? How do we crop with the correct ratio? Or is this the RESIZE you speek of?

I don't 'crop' per say... I use the marquee select too in the 'constrained aspect ratio' mode to get my dimensions right... I select a section, copy it, open a new file, and paste it in then I do a resize...

If you try to get the proper size photo by turning off the constrain proportions checkbox in Photoshop or Elements you run the risk of distorting your photo. If instead you select the crop tool in either program, you can enter the dimentions of 8.887" x 6.667" at a resolution of 72 dpi and you'll have a 640 x 480 pixel image. Anarcos, if you can sweat the $70 or so for Photoshop Elements, do it. You'll have much better luck than with Picture It.

I found a simple answer to my question, my camera features a way to retake the picture and make it the "legal" poportions. What an idiot i feel I should of thought of this in the first place. |

Are you sure that it is making it the legal proportions, or reducing the file size which can cause pixelation, etc.?
