| Ive had my 350 for about 2 years now, and have used it very rarely. Im thinking i might want to sell it and downgrade to a decent P&S, because what little photography im doing lately, i think i could do just as much with a P&S. Can someone suggest a reasonably priced P&S that has good wideangle ability, and is sharp, with good colors. Also, any idea what i should ask for my gear? I have a 350D, tamron 17-55mm/2.8 and a 50mm/1.8. All have been used very little, the lenses are basically new (ive only used the 50mm bout 10x :( ).. Any suggestions? |

Not often that someone on this site decides on a downgrade, but I do have to admit, even after getting a 350D earlier this year, I still use my Powershot S5 IS a lot. It has a lot of SLR-like features, but in a smaller package. Rather than reiterating all the details, I'll point you to the review I wrote of it on Epinions.com the S5 sells for about $350 in most stores now. You can probably find it for $300 online.
Not sure if you were looking for something smaller than this or not. If you are looking for something pocket sized, I have been hearing good about the Powershot A720
I'd be interested in that 50mm 1.8 if you are willing to sell it separately from the rest.

| ya, i know people normally want to upgrade, but ive come to realize that ive spent $1500 on this (bought all new), and havn't used it as much as id like. With money being tight now (isn't it for everyone..) I want to get something that can still take nice photo's, but will be cheaper, so i can have some cash in hand. Plus i do alot of long distance bike riding, and id like something smaller than my dslr that i can take along for quick pics and stuff. Having manual features would be a bonus. And if it could shoot in raw that would be even better. Ive looked at the Canon PowerShot's and i like the s5 and s3 with the IS, the price seems right too. Any thoughts on what i should ask for my gear? Not that it cost much, but i have the canon remote control too. |

The G9 would be the most convenient for the bike riding. It's small enough to fit in a jersey pocket or a hydration pack. It's pricier than the other choices however, at about $500 USD. I have a Topeak handlebar bag that works nicely for my S5:
I bought my XT/350D for $327 US in February. It was a steal at that price, however. I normally see it still selling new for about $500. The 50mm 1.8 sells new for between $80-100 US.

ya, i wasn't looking to spend that much again, im thinking the s3 or s5 would be best. There going for around $200-300 on craigslist, so i think if i can sell my gear for around $600ish, ill be happy. Sucks that i spend $500 on the lens alone :(

Canon should be sending me commission checks for the number of people I have pointed in the direction of the s5. They've all been very happy with the camera, and the images I've seen out of it have looked great. |

| If you do get one of the Canon P&S's, you might want to have a look at Lensmate. They make aluminum adapter barrels and accessories for many of the Canon models. I have a 52mm adapter barrel on my S5 so that I can use filters, lens hoods, and a normal lens cap that does not fall off when I breath on it. Also gives more places to hold it. With the barrel and a lens hood, many people think it is an SLR. |

You think you've spent alot and don't use it much? Take a look at my profile. That's just camera and lenses. It don't include all the accessories. All bought new. I think I've took about a dozen photos since the 1st of the year. Last time I added it up, I think it was just under $10,000. I get where you're coming from.

I'm also extremely interested in the 50mm :):)
I too have heard good things about the S5...as far as I know the slightly older model, S3, is very comparable and costs a bit less, since it's older.
I also had a Fuji S1000fd and it didn't work out at all (colors were all either oversaturated or a nasty grey), so stay away from those. |

I'd list that package on Vancouver Craigslist for 800 if they take the whole thing... otherwise, 400 for the body, 350 for the 17-50, 80 for the 50... those seem to be the going rates on those items locally, anyway.

Add another vote for the S3 or S5. I have an S3 and, after borrowing it awhile, Becky-Lee bought herself the S5. The feature I love most is supermacro, where you can actually be touching your subject. |
