I am sure you will make it through!!! Have not shot for the next round of challenges yet. Will probably be last minute as always. Always seem to have a mental block when I try to plan ahead. |

Me too! I think my numbers entry is the most planned out and earliest entry in over a year. :) That's why it'll probably bomb! |

Not gonna be able to get anything in for Numbers, so now I gotta shoot for an open challenge. Right now I'm looking at Safety. |

Ooooooh, sorry, Trumpeteer! Missed by 0.005.
Well, at least you did better than I am this round - I'll end up around 0.25 below my average.
Congrats to the rest who make it this week! I have to admit, it's nice having no pressure to enter. :) But I'll jump back in when we restart.

Yeah, It's a bummer in a way, but with school started, it's nice not to have the extra pressure. |

Congraulations to the three Week 7 Survivors who made it through Product Shot
ace flyman, EBJones, and tfarrell23.
Sorry to see Trumpeteer4 go down, and kudos to andrewt for having the foresight to pick his Shallow DOF entry this week and avoid getting bounced with his Product Shot entry!
Scoresheet will be updated after rollover Tuesday. For now, here are next week's averages to beat for those still alive (I realize some of you have posted that you're going down in Shallow DOF, but it ain't over til its over, so you're still alive today!)
ace flyman -- 5.5112
andrewt -- 5.9460
bspurgeon -- 5.6525
EBJones -- 5.7534
levyj413 -- 5.7025
tfarrell123 - 5.3952
Good luck everyone!

This is the only side challenge/tournament that I continued to follow even after I was "out." Usually I lose interest.
I definitely hope there is another one. |

Well, I'm in with a long exposure shot. Not too happy with it. Hopefully I can squeeze a little more time to get more shots before rollover Thurs.
Good luck to the rest !! |

Don't forget andrewt! Looks like we have our final four, and I'm still having a hard time believing I'm one of them!
I'm sorry to see you go, Ben, Jeff and Trevor. . . You've all made this a fun tourney.
As for current standings, It looks like my Numbers shot has a chance of getting me into week 9. How's everyone else looking? We have to keep this going until week 11! |

Congrats to the final four, and good luck!
In case anyone cares, my average score among my six entries was 6.28, or nearly 0.6 above my long-term average. And there's no question it's because I was really focused on entering things that would do well.
I'm not arguing DPC scores are the only possible goal (in fact, it's a bit of a relief now to be able to enter more whimsical or off-center stuff), but being in this side tourney focused me on that goal for 6 weeks, and it was fun. :)
Thanks again, Dennis!

Putting in for the Side Challenge.. takes it's toll...I have a whimsical or off center photo in Risk...and it is in there for fun...no score to worry about...and at the moment it is my lowest scoring photo since Mid February...my Numbers photo will get me to the next round... |

Jeffrey's post got me thinking ... now that we are getting down to the wire, we need a tiebreaker in case everyone goes out in the final week (whenever that may be) -- i.e., at the end of the day there is no one left standing, and in the week prior there was more than one.
In that case, the overall winner of the tournament will be the person (among those surviving the longest) who has beaten their score by the highest average amount during the tourney through the last week in which there were any survivors (i.e., the sum of all the amounts over average divided by the number of weeks of survival.)
I did a quick calculation on Sheet 3 of the scoresheet (see the OP for the link), and here is where we stand at the moment for the tiebreaker:
andrewt has beaten his average by an average of 0.72 points
tfarrell23 has beaten his average by an average of 0.69 points
ace flyman has beaten his average by an average of 0.56 points
EBJones has beaten his average by an average of 0.45 points
Jeffrey's post got me thinking about other stuff as well, and I tend to agree with him that shooting for the score can be a weight that dampens creativity and risk taking. I know while this tourney has been going on I've made more of a conscious effort to only enter shots that I think will beat my average (even tho I got bounced a while ago), and that has caused me to take a pass on several challenges I would have like to enter, but either didn't have the time to devote to shooting that it requried, or wasn't happy with what came out of my shoot. Quite a difference from the "what the heck, if i shot something I'll enter it" mentality that I originally brought to this site. There's a balance somewhere in between there, and like most of you I'm still struggling to find it. :>P

One thing that *might* help the risk/safe dilemma, is to use the highest score in a given week. That way, if you were a member, you could shoot one "safe" for the tournament, and still have fun with the other.
Might be a logistical nightmare, though. |

Darn it, Jeff! Why do you have to go and let Dennis think? All that does is get me put on the bottom of the pile! :)
I guess this means I have to be last man standing to win this one. . . can't let the tiebreaker come into play! This actually sounds like a fair solution in the event of a tie, though. |
