If you have Hoya filters, you might have wondered what the white mark on them was. Wonder no more


A trick you can use is to mark your filters. With the filter turned to maximum effect at 90 degrees from the sun. Mark the filter at the point on the ring where it points at the sun. Now at any position if that mark is pointing toward the sun you have maximum polarisation. Hoya filters already are marked.
