I don't know about most of you but I like to have icons [16x16] for my links in Explorer. Was wondering if someone would be willing to make one? Or what do you use? Right now I have a generic camera icon for the link to this site, but I'd like to see a more appropriate one.
Was also thinking...might be a good idea to have a standard button link for this site? So folks can link back to this site from their personal sites?
What's everyone think? |

Of course, proper netiquette requires you should always save a copy of the images to your web space and load that copy rather than referring to the copy on the DPChallenge servers.

If by the links you mean the favourites (in IE) or bookmarks (in anything other than IE)? If so, then the icon you are referring to is probably the ''favicon.ico'', which needs to be on the docroot of the website, ie in this case //www.dpchallenge.com/favicon.ico - you''ll have to talk to drew or langdon to put one there...

Sort of what I meant yes ... that icon would be nice for the site. But I'd just want one for my HD, because I link the icons manually to the URL.
BTW....is it just me or is awefully ironic that both our nicks and cameras are VERY similar....LOL.

Hehe, yeah, but I read yours as 'many-k' ;o) The A40 hadn't been released when I got my S40, which I only got when I couldn't get hold of a G2 - are there any features of the S40 that you wish the A40 had?

Well, to be honest I REALLY wanted a Nikon D-100, but that was way out of my price range ... Maybe some day.
The S40 couldn't be found in my area, at the time. But the only things I'd like about it better than my A40 are 1: 4.0 megapixels [obviously] 2: RAW mode
I did a lot of coomparisons with all the cameras that were available, AND in my price range. And I certainly don't regret my A40 purchase. It's serving my purposes very well, and has just enough options for creativity. But still ... the D-100 .... hmmmmmmmmmmm. |

Well, we can all dream... :o) As for the icon, has anyone got any (or got the inclination to make) 16x16 pixel ones that could be used for the site?

I was thinking the small blue ribbon gif would make a good icon for the site. If a bigger one is needed, use the big blue ribbon.

I used to run a website that provided free custom graphics for just about anyone that wanted one. My URL //www.pixelstate.com comes up under Google searchs for custom graphics (But I now use it to host my Digital Photgraphy)
I'll gladly know one up for free.
Let my know sizes etc.
Regards
Chris

If you could make the background transparent instead of grey, it'd be perfect :o)

This blog button maker is excellent: //kalsey.com/tools/buttonmaker/. I've used it to make all of the sidebar links on my site (//www.pixels-bandwidth.com/).

Is there a way to associate that button/icon to my favorites links for DPC in Firefox?

Assuming a windows operating system yes.
1. Put the URL on the desktop or quick launch bar
2. Right click on it
3. Select properties
4. Select change icon
5. Assign the new .ico file to the URL

Thanks Tom! I played with that a little while ago, but now it looks like someone changed the site to include the icon. Does DPC now supply that icon, or is it just me?

In firefox, when I right click on the url in the quick launch bar, it doesn't give me the properties option. Help?

I've just made my own set of buttons (why on earth is there no 'official' set yet?!), so in case anybody needs 'em ...
Does anybody know the correct "prints" font?

While I'm sure it will be purely a formality, it might not be a bad idea to contact Drew and Langdon for "offial" permission to use the site logos in these buttons. They could probably even be persuaded to make them accessible via the FAQ or somewhere similar.

OTOH, I would think D&L (or runners of any other site with "badges") would want people to load the file directly from their server, in case they ever want to update the graphic or logo. That would keep everything consistent.
Just a thought, bein' a webmaster and all... |

Cheers Terry,
I'll drop D&L a line. Putting some buttons in the FAQ would be a good idea - I'm sure more people would use them if they were made available. I did search through the previous button threads before making my own (always a last resort!), but the button I wanted to see (Ben's) was no longer on his server :-/
Edit: The dpcPrints logo in my earlier post has been updated.
