.....as a way to edit this image.
Our Camera club are having a competition with another club and one of the categories is weather I knew our club was struggling to find any entries for weather so I went out and took the above image this morning...not exactly inspiring but I thought I could improve it somehow and enter it and see what happens! |

a quick take on your image.
My edit was a small amount of tonemapping using Photomatrix Pro plug-in. I would think running the original through HDR and Tonemapping in Photomatric Pro would bring out a lot of detail. If the picture was taken in RAW format.

My was Levels, a little Shadows/Highlights, Apply Image in Lab Mode, new Levels layer in Multiply mode then a gradient on the layer mask from upper left to lower right

I can only give you my person opinion. If that helps.
I think you took out one of the elements, sun rays, when you cropped the photograph. IMO the sun rays are important to this picture to show what light is illuminating the mist/steam that is rising from the waters. Your edit is good but a bit dark as I can't see the rock details anymore and I just don't care for the crop and eliminating the sun rays. Again this is just my opinion.
Hope this helps in some way.
Scott

Here is my take on it...only had a few minutes to work with. Not as good as the others, but I tried. Removed the waves...more of a misty/fog feeling.
