The Night Sky results have been recalculated due to the disqualification of the former first place entry for failure to provide a valid original.

Congrats to everyone who gets bumped up a notch!

Oh my. To lose an 8+. Ouch! dacrazyrn has been around enough I wouldn't suspect shenanigans. Maybe it was a date issue due to the new camera?

Sorry to hear about the DQ.

Oh no!
Well if it's any consolation, that was my pick for the winner also, hands down.

Still an exceptional image

That's a real shame!

Well, Artifacts should be happy now. I wonder how much his thread (jlanoue - The best DPCer you'll never credit) had to do with the 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Anyhoo, congrats to the new winners!

Been down on the Cedar Mesa in Utah all weekend. so....
When my score has hedging over 8 I decided to send in for qualification on my own. I sent in my DNG file, which is the workflow that I have been using over a year in speeding up my processing. Unbeknownst (sp?) to me it has not been embedding the original NEF file into the DNG. Apparently that is a MANUAL setting (as far as I can figure and can't get it to automate...yet) each time the Adobe Downloader starts its auto processing when the CF card is sensed.
I had been shooting pictures on that same card the day after and was only able to get a RAW NEF file recovered that was about a minute and 30 seconds after this one was taken. So I figured this was coming.
So a few NEW processes to go into effect for my shooting. Meaning using a different card and "saving" that card until my next shoot. Figuring out how to get that damn Embed RAW button to stay on in Adobe Downloader (everytime I quit and come back it is off again.).

FYI, the problem is not that the DNG file did or did not contain your NEF file, it was that we don't accept DNG files at all (unless the camera natively creates them).

Any chance of this changing? My 1st place in the Odd challenge also got DQed because it was a DNG and not a RAW. I put the SC in touch with the Adobe Lightroom manager who explained how DNG is RAW and you can consider it as an original out of the camera and was showing ways to confirm this but never heard what the resolution was.

Unfortunately, we didn't get enough clarification regarding DNG files from Adobe to be confident that we can accept them as originals, so I don't see this situation changing any time soon.

So for the last hour I have been messing with the Photo Downloader. I found that I also needed to update the DNG Converter to 4.4.1, (I had 4.0) since it was not even letting me embed the NEF file in it anyway. NICE!!!
So, if you are DL with Photo Downloader to dng, be sure you have the new programs, be sure you go INTO the DNG Program and set the EMBED RAW file and also when the Downloader comes up, be sure to make sure that the Embed RAW is on also (under the Options button).
Never stop learning things here (if not by doing it on my own), so another lesson learned...unfortunately the HARD WAY!

I love the DNG format but if I'm going to be embedding the RAW file in the DNG I'm not seeing that it buys me that much and might as well go back just the RAW.

well the DNG does import your metadata for Photographer, and whatever else you want. One less step for me in iView
