I want to shoot model (My wife) style shots in the apartment (And if at all possible, outside as well). However, short on cash with all the lenses bought and other gear, and unsure as to what would be over kill, I wanted to get opinions on a good start-up.
I watched this VIDEO and he suggested this package DEAL
What I am wondering is pretty much the same as what I wondered when I first bought my DSLR...what to look for, what's too much, and so on. I know it can depend on the person, but I would mostly like to do setups in my apartment. Only if affordable would I do something outside with lights. I'd like something that I can add accessories too and then move on from there once I've learned more by trying.
Help!
This looks good, but I'm new so what do I know THIS

Probably does not answer your question. Sorry if that is the case. But for flexible shooting indoors and outdoors, I don't think you can beat using a simple kit of light stand, wireless trigger of some sort, and portable flash unit, plus umbrella. Take a look at this video at the top of the page for some inspiration. The blog is a worthwhile read with some other videos too. You're a Nikon user, so how about an SB-600 and an SB-28?

Strobist is a lighting "movement" that works well for your situation. Its relatively inexpensive, the setup is portable and the results are generally quite good.
edit to add: hmmm....Bert Stepani is referenced in the latest posting.
