I was thinking about having a graph when you have submitted an entry in a challenge. What this graph would show your hour by hour rating status. As of today when you look at your entry it shows rating at that moment of time but it won't show you how much it was 5 hours back or 6 hours back. this graph would show you up and down of your points hour by hour. Now catch would be that we should not keep this record right after challenge completes, we should keep the record for a day or two max then remove it this way we don't have to do manage the numbers for long time. Now this graph should only be visible to the person who entered challenge.

what do you guys think? I think it would help at-least to me to know how ratings are going and when it was at pick and how much that was and when it was low and how much that was.

thoughts?

Oh no! I can't take a more visual representation of my failure! My graph would like something like this.

*
**
***
****
*****
******
*******
********

Do they actually go back up sometimes? :-)

I don't think any of these spreadsheets record the time, but otherwise they will do what you want: Track your score and figure out each vote

I'd love it if the graph the shows after the competition closes, showed on the screen for your own picture as the voting was in progress.

You wouldn't know who was voting but it would be interesting seeing how many of each score you were receiving during the voting period.

The we could all enjoy comments like the following:

'Yes, another 10 vote!!!' (for those that are fortunate to get them that is)

'Who gave me that crappy 1 vote...troll'

'Another 6, another 5....another average picture'.

I don't see any benefits from having a graph. I actually turn off my score after 10 or so votes when in a challenge and only go see the results when a comment is made. I have no need to see my score go up by .0143 and then get hit by a drop of .0032. Haven't you noticed that after about 20 votes you can tell what your image is going to finish at? If your image starts off at a 4.8, it will remain at that or very close to it. I don't see why I would want to see these fluctuations in my score except if I was a crazy statistician who needed to see every little detail about every single detail about every single detail....

Here are my graphs from several past challenges. I have yet to decide if they are valuable or not.

That couldn't be more incorrect. I've had fluctuations of half a point or more after more than fifty votes, and one entry shoot up 0.4 two hours before the challenge ended.

I do agree it's maddening (if not just mad) to micromanage your score minute by minute. Doesn't mean I'm not guilty of it...

I guess my point is that I see this micromanaging, as you put it, as ridiculous and completely non essential to my images. It probably just shows us that some are here for pure adulation through winning ribbons and some are here to participate and compare their photos to others and use this knowledge to better their skills.

That's a pretty hasty conclusion. I'm not sure I see the connection between curiousity over one's score and a desire for adulation. It's a contest. Scoring is part of the fun. Graphing might be a little over the top, but the reasons peeople watch their scores so closely, I'm sure, are as diverse as the people who participate here.
