My first time using off-camera flash. I only have one flash at the moment (Don't have the right cable for my 430ex and my second Sunpak isn't coming until later this week). I also didn't have an assistant to hold a reflector.
Anyway, these are just of a friend, not a client, so it really didn't matter. I'd still love some C&C.

Several of them have that overly flashed look. The very last one looks like you got it dialed in. The poses are OK but the flash needs dialed down or the lens stopped down more. You can still darken the background and have a properly exposed flash shot without the overly flashed look. I'd recommend a nice flashmeter since you are doing off camera manual flash setups.

I really liked the results Kevin...I am gonna try that as well...I did some stuff for my son's fashion label where I used a superwide angle lens and the flash really close and harsh for effect and it worked well see //www.miiif.com
I think in most of yours you got a really nice amount of light...a couple were a little harsh, but overall, I am inspired! |

| You have some very sharp edges on the shadows (what most would call harsh shadows). The way to reduce the sharp edges on the shadows is to use a bigger light source and/or move the light closer to the subject. My recommendation would be to get a shoot through umbrella. Using a shoot thru umbrella is easy to do on location because it is light weight and easy to transport (as opposed to using a soft box which is either bulky or takes time to set up which you don't want to do on location). If you don't have an extra person, then you'll want a light stand as well but even that is fairly light weight. |
