Has anyone else tried to log into ebay today?
After entering my username I was greeted by a page with this.....
We have noticed an increasing fraudulent activity recently. In order to provide your security and protect you from fraudsters we have introduced a new system of identification that will help us to avoid any kind of fraud or unauthorised access.
Please enter as more information as possible to provide your complete identification and to activate all the features of the new system.
I thought the abuse of English seems pretty odd (an increasing fraudulent activity....Please enter as more information as possible). Plus, I find it very odd that ebay wants my ATM# and bank routing information.

I would suggest contacting them and asking first I"ve never had that problem before
and even then all they ask is like my zipcode or email or something like that, not "as much info as possible"

Your computer has probably been compromised.

You try running some spyware/virus scans. Sounds like you might have been hacked. |

Yeah, doesn't ebay have one of those statements where they say "We will NEVER ask you for any personal information, such as bank account info..." etc. ? |

Running virus and mal-ware scans now (ran everything this morning and nothing came up).
This is the screen I get
Edit, because that wasn't the screen I got.

Definitely compromised computer! That screen shot is typical of identity theft sites.

Do you have the eBay Account Guard toolbar?
Your page is a sophisticated hack - the beginning of the URL does start correctly but the redirect to the partner site is suspect.
You should definitely e-mail them with the screen shot and find out what's up. |

ive found your problem, its in the URL bar
Domains and hostnames
The part of a URL after "//" up to the next "/" is the hostname, which tells Firefox which site to connect to. As you read a hostname from right to left, as a sequence of parts separated by dots, it becomes more specific. For example, "com" is a top-level domain containing many sites, "ebay.com" is a domain owned by eBay, and "signin.ebay.com" is a part of ebay.com.
Here are some examples of URLs that eBay controls as a result of owning "ebay.com":
* https://ebay.com/
* https://www.ebay.com/
* https://signin.ebay.com/
eBay Inc. does not control any of the following as a result of owning "ebay.com". If you find yourself at a similar URL, it is probably a scam (phishing) site set up by someone who wants to steal your eBay account, money, or auction goods.
* https://ebay.signin.com/
* https://www.ebay.com.signin.com/
* https://ebay-signin.com/ (parts of a hostname are separated by dots, and can contain dashes)
* https://signin-ebay.com/
In the examples above, I helped by bolding the top-level domain ("com" in these examples) plus one more level, in order to indicate the domain that some person or company owns. Most web browsers do not do this for you; instead, they expect you to parse hostnames in your head by scanning from right to left, looking for dots.

Yeah that's a phishing page and is not legit. Ebay will NEVER ask for you SS#.

Log on to eBay.com by typing the https://ebay.com/ Then use the "Help" menu drop-down to get to the "security and resolution center" where there is much good info about the type of thing you are experiencing.
The screen shot that you posted was definitely not a legit page, even the grammar mistake is a give away. "enter as more information as possible" NOT.

Check your hosts file (for Windows, probably c:\windows\system32\etc\hosts) - it has the power to override a domain name with another IP address. If a virus placed an entry into your hosts file, then the domain ebay.com could point to any server the virus wants.
Also try the nslookup command from the command prompt:
C:\> nslookup ebay.com
Name: ebay.com
Addresses: 66.135.205.13, 66.135.221.11, 66.135.221.10, 66.211.160.88, 66.211.160.87, 66.135.205.14
Once you get the address, you can find out who owns it at ARIN. Example: 66.135.205.13 - Ebay INC
These above addresses are legitimate.

Pretty much any where I try to go on ebay from "that" computer takes me to the phony log in page. I tried my desktop and everything worked normally, so I changed my passwords and got the screen shot sent off to their security people.
Thus far, the scans have uncovered nothing- no mal-ware, no virus, no spyware. One of my buddies that works in cyber security just sent me a couple of his tools to try. I'll let you know.
Thanks for all the help.
btw- It is making me a little depressed watching the views on the screen shot rapidly out pace views on photos that I uploaded more than a year ago. :)
