What's the best way of removing dust from the sensor? Cheers, Terry.

lock up the mirror and get a little bellows to blow off the sensor. don't touch it!

i had to do this just last night... i had a little hair inside (turned out to be on the mirror). i was kinda freaked out, but it was actually really easy.

and NO, kiwi, it was not the kind of hair yer thinkin' :P

Jim,
I notice that there is a small, slightly darker grey circle to the right of each image. Is this caused by a smudge on the lens?

I have a D70 waiting for me in the shop. Gonna bring my 70-300 lens in tomorrow and test it out!!!

Cheers,

I haven't checked where the smudge is, and I cleaned the lenses just before taking the test shots. Oh well, that's something for tomorrow...

Terry, you'll enjoy the D70. I know that there's a massive amount of negative hype in the forums about this, but really, most of it isn't to be believed. Which is not to say that we shouldn't wear rose-tined (forgive the pun) glasses.

Do the same procedures apply with the 300D? I have noticed a little dust & hair in the viewfinder probably on the camera sensor. There is also the small darker circle in the top left hand corner of a few of my recent shots (may have been at ISO 200). Only visible on shots with lots of clear sky!

yup. there should be information in your manual. look for "ccd cleaning."

and when you're doing it, it's good to also clean the mirror (just blow with the bellows before you do the lock-up procedure). that stuff shows up in the view finder, but not in the photos. that's where my problem was.

The trick is to not blow the stuff that's on the mirror, and only annoying, on to the sensor, where it becomes problematic.

Are these images titled incorrectly or were they taken at significantly different times? You appear to be getting a faster shutter speed at the smaller apertures.

You're right!

I've just checked with the original files and seen that I've reversed the information.

The top photo should read f4, 1/3200 and the bottom, f5, 1/2000.
