The results of the 'Sun in Frame' challenge have been recalculated, as the former 2nd place image has been disqualified for being taken outside of the challenge dates. Congrats to our new 2nd & 3rd place ribbon winners!

The disqualified entry:
There isn't much info in romil's profile, but in these cases I always wonder if a language barrier contributed to the DQ.

Why would you say that? Because of the date violation? He also said he did some photoshop....not sure if that photoshop was legal under basic or not (doesn't sound like it was). In any case, there are a lot of people on this site who do not speak English as a first language and manage to follow the rules.

Personally, I'd like to see all foreigners banned from the site.

You know, I'm not usually a "picky" voter, but I find it a (somewhat pleasant) surprise that an obvious "DNMC" image placed first. :-) |

Funny, the EXIF data was intact on the DQ'ed photo and it indicated a date within the submission period. Did I miss something??????
Edit: Oh,,, DUH! The 5/01/08 date was the edit date.
I finally found the 3/07 orig photo date!!!!

That was my first thought when I saw the winner, but I didn't want to trash a winner because that is tabu around here. I had another image that I wanted to enter for the challenge but I told my spousal unit that I didn't think I would get a good score because the sun wasn't as pronounced due to the clouds it dipped behind. i am hpy with what I entered, but the point still remains that in the winner's entry the sun is not so much in the frame as the challenge description would request. Of course that is two of how many people's view on the image and obviously the majority of the site didn't mind.

It has bugged me ALL day! But I cannot say I found it as 'pleasant' as you seem to have.

So make that three.

Well, I find it a positive sign that people are willing to expand their ideas as to what meets the challenge definition. It is surely a stunning image, where the "wow factor" is largely due to the directly-visible rays of the sun, even though the solar disk itself is obscured. Perhaps this is not the best example of where image quality really ought to over-ride description literalism, but I hope it's a sign of a coming trend towards supporting people "taking risks" with their entries. |

I don't get it. Why would this be DNMC? The sun is in the frame. ??? Is this some tongue-in-cheek sarcasm that I'm missing?
