I have a couple of websites I maintain for various organizations and I often take pictures at events and then post them on the website as sort of a narrative of the event. Have been doing this for years. As time goes on I seem to take more and more usable pictures at any given event, and that is taxing the Java slideshows I use, which pre-load ALL the images. Even resized to minimal sizes (640 x 480 max) web pages are slowing down with 200 images in a slideshow.

In addition, I have lots of non-tech users, so I suspect some don't have Flash, and some will have high security settings that balk at external Java applets. So something like Javascript would be nice, but I haven't found quite what I need on any of the feebie Java sites.

But still ... here's what I would like a slideshow to handle:

- infinite number of images (realistically up to 300 per show)
- images of varying sizes (defined max height/width is OK as parameters)
- intelligent pre-load (no more than a few images ahead of the current one)
- run automagically or under view control (next/prev/stop/start)
- uses a directory listing to find/display images instead of making me type out the whole list in the code (could live without this but it would save me a lot of time)

Don't need the images to link to URLs or larger versions of the images. Don't want a thumbnail gallery type display.

I can figure out where to change parameters but am not a coder by any means ;-) So I can't write my own script.

Any ideas?

but I *think* they are both flash based...

I use slideshowpro and director for my portfolio. Uses flash, but you could check it out and see if you like it. Fairly cheap, too.

Maybe you could have a try of Wondershare Flash Slideshow Builder. That software aims to simplify the process of making a slideshow and it almost meets all your needs. You don̢۪t need any technology about flash. It allows you importing max 1024 pictures in a slideshow and resizing images. It also provides many templates, which some support running automatically , and others support running under view control. However, I have to say, it doesn̢۪t support pre-load. But pre-load usually causes your slideshow can̢۪t play smoothly. So that may be not very necessary. You can try it free from //www.photo-to-dvd.com/flash-slide-show.html.Hope that helpful!(^_^)

Lightroom has a great Slideshow feature that outputs unlimited images into the same customizable template in either flash or html. Super easy, and great results. Might be worth a look.
