Is my freestudy score as I type this. It's been going up a little bit at a time, and now sites as my third best score ever. My First and Second best scores were also in Free Studies.

So I don't suck at photography afterall! Apparently I just suck at conjuring up an idea to meet a challenge and capturing that idea before a deadline arrives.

Confidence restored!

Some of us just suck at making something that pleases everybody at once.

This place can drain your confidence. I suck at challenges. No ifs, ands or buts. Though I have people that love my stuff, so I consider that more than I consider my scores as an indicator of whether I truly suck or not.

PLEASE do NOT use this place as an index of your abilities as a photographer or conceptual person!!!!!

Although it is a great learning tool, it's a really rough gauge simply because we're all too critical as a rule.

I have found that as much as 70% of the stuff I'll categorically dismiss as garbage is most acceptable to the masses out there when all they want is an event or image preserved for posterity.

I have also found that it's fairly easy to wow the people that you encounter in everyday life with GOOD, not great work.

Not everyone out there looks at your images and is trying to decide if it's a 5, 6, 7.......or a 4.

Most people just like to look at a nice image and aren't trying to pick it apart.

That doesn't mean that you should pack it in here.......I love the dose of reality and critiques......it helps keep me grounded so I don't develop an attitude that exceeds my true ability, but by the same token, if I tank in a challenge, I don't let it get to me......(Too much!)

Just as an FYI......my FS, which is doing a whopping 5.9, just won first place in my local camera club's competition......and with one of the best scores in recent years.

One of the comments I got on it was that it was an "Ordinary" shot......yet EVRYONE who has seen the shot here printed out has just raved about it.

Oh......and most importantly, I'm both happy with it and proud to call it mine.

Regardless of the fact that AGAIN it looks like I won't break 6 in a Free Study........(Grumble, grumble, bitch, bitch).....8>)

Glad to hear you have a good one going but always remember that's how this site sucks you in, next week they might just beat you back down, at least that's how they treat me....:)

^^ agreed 100%
150%

when I first started almost all of my photos have been voted around the 5's and because of it, I was discouraged about photography. I decided that my artistic prints were not good enough and I would just continue with portraits, weddings, ect.... well I recently just sold this photo voted in the 4's for $250 and have people interested in the others. mostly bc I failed to realize how much prompt can affect the photo, as well as the fact that the people on here are not the general public.
