I think that for the free study challenges instead of getting a Blue, Red and Yellow ribbon they should be Gold, Silver and Bronze just because winning a FS is so much more than winning a challenge. When looking at someone's profile and seeing all the ribbons you can't QUICKLY see if anyone has won a FS but if the ribbon stood out more I think it would mean more to the winner and the person looking at the profile.

Maybe it could be black or orange or some sick looking color.

I agree, I believe that winning a free study is defenetily the hardest challenge of the month.

I was going to suggest that they replace all ribbins in August with medals in honorof the Olympics. Great minds must think alike.

Definitely agree. Great suggestion Joe

Thanks everyone.

And by the way the brown would still be the brown. Considering that you don't actually get a ribbon for it from the site it would be the same. But of someone wanted to make a gold band around the brown ribbon then they could.

Also I know that at one time people were asking about actual prizes for winning challenges. Well because there are so many of them it would be a pain to track and keep all that not to mention the expense so I was thinking that instead of (all challenges) if it were just the FS challenges.

Along with winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the monthly FS you would get actual prizes.
For starters;

1st would win an extra month of membership
2nd would get an extra week of membership
3rd could get $10 off the renewal of a membership

Or something of that matter. Just a suggestion but the actual prizes could deal with memberships, or a front page recognition for the full month so people that aren't members could read about the FS winners and might join.

[thinking]
maybe on the left had side of the home page or something... we could put a profile picture along with the winning picture of the 1st place FS challenge. If they gave a description of how they did the shot that would be sweet too but I know everyone doesn't like to do that. So if they have it, it would be posted. If not it's not a big deal. [/thinking]

Prizes may be taking it a bit far IMHO, people already tend to take things to seriously and adding prizes will likely light a lot of fires that are not needed. Keep it simple keep it fun!

While I agree that it's hard to win a free study, I don't agree that different ribbons should be given. What about "black and white" challenges or similar that generate 500 plus entries ... should they be given special attention as well?

open challenges, member challenges, free study ... winnin's winnin :)

If the site become too categorized, it'll be tough to know what's going on.

just an opinion

Has SC/admin seen this or considered it?

ditto!!! i think every challenge is hard on its own, especially the ones, that require creativity and a special "setup" or perspective, which is kinda easier in a FS imo, because the choice of subject is on you.
you can't just catagorize challenges in "this one is easy to win ans this was hard" and deny everything else...

Although there are a lot of entries in a Black and white challenge, they aren't every month and submission doesn̢۪t last for a month. Free study means anything goes, Black and white may mean enter whatever you like but the restriction is it must be in Black and white. Meaning B&W is categorized as a normal challenge.

BUMP for SC notification

Hey! Not so -- we pass everything along ...

The problem with changing awards or voting methods at this point is that it invalidates comparisons with results prior to such change, and I think continuity and consistency are important in the context of this competitive community.

Also, there are reliable rumors that the site admins are working on some kind of site update which will represent more than "tweaking" the system -- I would expect any suggestions for major changes such as this might be considered for such a significant upgrade, but not before.
