LOL There were times when I decided not to take my camera.

I remember once I said no we're going on a three hour drive and I Just want to get there asap. So Sure enough, we pull out of the house, down the block make a turn and onto the main street of where I live and low and behold the fire department decided to burn a house down, gear up their fireman and do a fire drill, right smack in the middle of the day - no less than fifteen minutes after I decided not to take my camera, and about a minute away from where I live, and yes it was open to the public for viewing so long as you didnt pass the yellow ribbon thing.

I'm trying more and more to carry it with me wherever I go, I guess im just scared I will drop it or break it. It also depends on where I go and what I expect to see when I get there - I learned my lesson though

All the time.

One time I went shopping and thought, eh, I'll leave the camera at home. I'll just be gone for 1/2 hour.

Well, that was the time I saw a double rainbow in an incredible sky. I kicked myself really hard, as not to ever forget to Take The Camera!!!

Also - some of the best shots when you have been imbibing... :o)

how are your shoulders feeling, peoples-who-carry-their-camera-always-with-them?

Only 30 minutes with my bag on my shoulders and it hurts like hell :S

lol, I have different bags for different events.

Back pack for most of the time
Black Handbag when it is formal
Straw handbag for less formal
Any Gay event, I have a black and white make up travelling case which works so well
Two black small photobags when going light.

In fact my camera has better bags than I do.

I carry it all the time, but I haven't worked out what is does?? I thought it was one of those new handbag thingies?

Guess I am getting too old for all this modern technology, I got an Ipod, but I still can't see any better. Had a Canon 30D, but the muggers just laughed at me, I didn't know it wasn't a real cannon!!

I have 1 30D at work and another at home. When I travel the one at home always comes with me. The only time I dont have a camera in arms reach is when I travel home which is 800mt away and about 1.5 minutes in the car. One time travelling to work I saw the most amazing rainbow and I didn't have my camera. By the time I got to work and got the camera out, it was gone. I am paranoid that if I travel without my camera that I will miss the shot of a lifetime.

I was running to the bank, 10-20 minute trip tops. I always bring my camera though, and this is why.

This happened just today!

Thankfully noone was hurt, the owner was inside one of the stores when it happened. I briefly talked to the owner, he didn't know the reason for the fire however he did have insurance and a ride home. Thankfully the fuel tank did not explode though there were several small booms that I assume were the airbag canisters exploding.

Several people tried to rush past the police to get a closer view, the police were not very pleased but thankfully they all backed off when confronted.

I am a bit tired of walking around with a big heavy expensive camera all the time. It is time for more Sigma DP1 like camera's. I handled one three weeks ago and it is light and a joy to use (prime lens is no problem for me). Now it is time for Canon or Nikon to make something like that too, because I don't like the colors of the Sigma (espec. reds).

So the answer is: As few times as possible.

always ..you can never be sure when the mothership will land...

The only time I leave it home is when I'm going somewhere that there is a danger of it being stolen because I'll be doing something that will keep me from monitoring it.

I spend alot of time in the passenger seat of my car saying "wait!.. stop! go back! "

i dont understand the question...

I usually only carry it when I'm going out shooting which is unfortunate.

I've been giving this more and more thought lately and I think I want to pick up a G9 to have on me at all times in case I see something really cool or find a nice location I may want to use in a future portrait session. The compact size would make it a lot more appealing to carry around because I'm not huge on the idea of an extra bag everywhere I go, I tend to put down and forget about bags.

I never leave the house without my camera. And I rarely use it, but what the hey? You never know...

I take it with me everywhere except the bathroom and bed. I never leave home without it.

We are doing more motorcycle trips and the 30D is to heavy to carry on the back so I bought a Point and Shoot so that I will have a camera with me at all times.

I kick myself whenever I go out without it, but when I take it, I end up looking for any old crap to shoot. :/

Today I was sitting in my (home) office and my next door neighbor called and said her cat was stuck up in my tree. My first inclination was to grab the camera, but I figured she might think I'm a bit odd (she doesn't know me very well, so I have a false impresion to maintain). Anyway, the cat was about 4ft short of the very top of my rickety 16' aluminum ladder and I could not reach her without standing on the second rung from the top. The whole time, I had 3 thoughts: "I wish I had my camera!", "My insurance ain't gonna cover me when I plummet to my doom!" and - "I don't even like cats!" Anyway, I had a hard time coaxing it to where I could just grab it by the scruff of the neck which apparently causes it's limbs to hyperextend out in all directions and all it's claws to come out! My thoughts were just reduced to "I wish I had my camera" as I carried that thing down the ladder. Doh! Lost opportunity. :(

I'm going to look for some point & shoot glasses.
