Saw a second hand Minolta lens in a camera shop near me for £10 (about $20) Think it was one like this (it definitely went to F1.7, I know that much)

I'm kicking myself I didn't get it. Reckon I should go back?

Do any of the other Sony Alpha users out there have old Minolta lenses? Will I need any other equipment (adapters etc)?

Lens Compatabillity

According to this site, it looks like it should work- make sure it isn't all blurry and out of focus like the one on ebay :) I always wonder about people selling camera equipment using really, really, really out of focus photos- then commenting on how sharp the lens is.

50mm's are tough to beat for sharpness. And it would give you a nice fast lens in your bag. Make sure you take your body and try a few shots with it before putting your money down.

That was my thinking. Cool. Thanks for that link! :-)

Bump with an update.

I decided to go back as £10 isn't a lot to spend (especially as, if it's not compatible, I can sell it on for £65 ;-) lol)

The guy in the shop didn't impress me at all with his attitude - practically laughed at me for thinking he'd sell a 50mm 1.7 prime lens for £10.

The only constructive comments he made were that the lenses he were selling were MD lenses and wouldn't have worked, because of all the electronics etc. (I looked back later and most of the lenses were labelled MD but not this one)

I was expecting the lens to be not fully compatible in terms of electronics - I was expecting to have to manually focus and set the aperture.

Frankly I wasn't impressed with his people skills and we left - but in hindsight I still think he might be wrong. So I'll ask the question again in case any Sony users here missed it - will I be able to use that lens with my camera? Will I need any adapters etc? Will I have to manually focus?

Why didn't you just give him a tenner for it anyway, then check out if you can use it after?? Like you said, if it wasn't compatible with your camera, you could sell it on eBay. I tend to get things when I see them, then work out if they will fit my camera or whatever.
