Thanks deb for both the clicky link and the story on Dave Ashton...I just dropped a line to Langdon suggesting a memorial section for dpcers who pass on, so their spirits and photography are never forgotten.

Nice catch on that one, Deb.
I'm working on a quilt for our oldest son, TJ. He's a red-head and I decided his quilts (from the past) are getting pretty worn. So I've started a nice masculine one for his birthday. It is in August and I hope to hand quilt this one instead of tacking it (like I usually do). Never fear, I'll post a pic of it when it gets closer to being finished.
It is browns/rusts/ and greens. Very pleasing to the eye, if I do say so myself. I'm especially proud of it because it's my own design and I think it might just be working well.
Jeanne

PS: sorry about your friend/coworker.

I have fabric I bought over a year ago, still sitting in the little bags it came in.... But I have good intentions!

That should be one gorgeous quilt, esp in those lovely colours, Jeanne! hey if he doesn't want it, well I'm an Autumn...:-)

btw cat fans...

This pic pretty much sums things up...no more growling/hissing from Octopussy, but the poor guy is just so exasperated with this sexually frustrated female following him around and flinging herself at his feet! And the volume knob on Lily definitely needs adjusting, for such a teeny cat she sure can make herself heard loud and clear...spay date is about 3 weeks away...

edit to add that the perspective is not really that far off...Lily is 5lbs, even smaller than the calico, and she's going on 6 yrs...

Sail away to our result thread, where Wildcard just missed getting a 7, and got 6th overall!

ETA: Congrats also to figaro for getting a personal best!

there's some super work going on here. well done everyone!

can i ask opinions on this? i'm advertising on brides.com, and need a 75 word blurb to go on my ad. is this just too cheesy for words? (and, yes, it's 82 words...)

This is my quickie rewrite - offered as a suggestion, no offense meant by offering it, or taken, if it doesn't float your boat :) - and if you count "trash-the-dress" as one word, I think this might be 75 words...

btw Christian, thanks for your own brand of posthumous award on my camera entry, it was a pleasant surprise to wake up to this morning!

Got a new toy today. Something small and compact to keep with me in the kiddie catch-all bag I carry, and lighter than my D50.

I picked up a Canon A590 IS today (thankful for a Henry's line of credit, or this never would have happened).

Not a bad price ($199 CDN) for an 8mp 4x zoom. I've tried it out today, and while the photo quality isn't up to the D50, it's certainly a nice enough camera for family snapshots.

Hi all, haven't been around much (haven't been shooting much, either, for that matter), but have something to share:

Hope to be around some more once I get some home life stuff worked out (not related to the kid).

Best,

Bruce

I did my entry for The Cowboy today. I LOVE it. I hope this doesn't get rated like most of the photos I love. I'd like to have it on my top row for a while. Now I have to wait a whole week for roll over.

Well....I talked about this comment earlier......as it pertains to my Boats image which did WAAAAAAAAY better than I had imagined. I did this image for the sole pleasure and impression of the mystical nature of the concept of a boat in the woods at the top of a mountain.

The Image:

The Comment from tootsweet:

"Post-processing to perfection. You have captured in digital format what I think Monet might have painted if he saw this image. You have met my personal rule of processing...if you do it, go all the way to create something unexpected. Thank you!"

Sometimes you get a comment that just sends you to the moon and sets you back on your heels at the same time.

I was just blown away!

I wrote her and thanked her, but I'm sure it was just so much rambling, 'cause how on earth can you express the feelings that a comment like this evokes?

AND.......this comment from MaryO preceded it!

"Lovely, dreamy effect here that makes me feel the boat is going to magically shed its confining vines and sail through the forest. Maybe with fairies aboard."

I'm just thrilled.....and humbled with gratitude.

These two comments really made me feel wonderful.

Great, Jeb! Now, put those comments in your memory, and pull 'em out when you next start getting riled up about comments you don't like. :)

Oh yeah.....THAT'll happen!!! LOL!!!

I am sucking along in the Free Study, was feeling sorry for myself again, and unappreciated (Can you say bi-polar?????).......then I got an outstanding comment from Don.

Life is good!.....8>)

I think my free study is a better shot than the portrait, though I really like them both. I don't think I've ever had consecutive 6's on DPC before.

Go, Rob! Enjoy it while it lasts. And a 6+ in a Free Study is nothing to sneeze at...
06/03/2008 03:45:50 PM · #694
Wow Rob - those are some amazing scores. Congrats.

Multi-gender portraits are up in the results thread. Congrats to JuliBoc and meyers (hey, that's me!) for the top scores in their challenges!

Congrats also to Wildcard, who ran away with the weekly top score bragging rights for the week.

Congrats to Julianne and Rob for terrific portraits. :)

And it's that time of the month, when TSers rock the trustedreviews.com monthly contest. This month's theme was urban wildlife.

Xianart starts us off, with a wonderful runner-up shot of pigeons that just screams her style to those of us who have spent time in her portfolio (and this month, they knew Christian was a "she.")

Next is Juliboc, with a truly fantastic iguana that netted her another runner-up image. Julianne showed it to me when she sent it in, and I knew it'd do well.

And finally ... drum roll please ... we have colorcarnival taking 2nd place with a gorgeous photo of a fox!

Edited at the request of someone for a top-secret reason. Ahem.

Greetings from Kuwait, where it is indeed warm! (To think I'd forgotten that part...)

Congrats to all the high scorers (and all the entrants for that matter) in Portraits, and 'grats to those who did well in the TrustedReviews thingie (I guess they didn't like Walkies - oh well!)

I may fall a bit behind in comments (and voting) this week - access is still painfully slow here, and I'll be spending some time on planes and waiting for them this week as well.

Excellent pictures there, good boy for showing them, Jeffrey.

Way out of my league, I'm up for a top 50 result in night sky though.
