You REALLY know it's one of those days when you try to go to your own profile page and you get this:
Your request has caused an internal error. The administrators have been notified of this error. Please try again later.
Hmmm. Are they trying to tell me something?? :-)
Looks like a nice trip, Bob. Almost kinda sorta makes me a little homesick, though San Antonio is a much nicer bit of Texas than Dallas. |

It was a very nice time. I've always wanted to see the JFK museum so I got my chance. I noticed that in Fort Worth, there are many more cowboy hats than in Dallas and I couldn't believe the size of Billy Bobs.
If you're familiar with the DFW area, the wedding was in a town called Mckinney which is north of Dallas near Frisco.
I would love to see more of Texas including San Antonio and Austin. It'll probably be a while before I can afford to go down there again though.
Thanks for the comments. |

This is what I did today with my husband. Check out the rest of the photos here.
It was HOT - two hours in the sun at 95 degrees waiting to get in. We got inside just before the skies opened up with an afternoon thunderstorm. Then inside it was COLD - two more hours waiting in an arena that is used for ice hockey. There was a soldier in a camouflage uniform who didn't get in before the rain. He was soaked through to the bone -- dripping a big puddle on the floor -- and the poor guy was so cold he was shaking.
In spite of all the discomfort, it was totally worth it for the experience of seeing and hearing Obama in person.
No "professional" cameras were allowed (without a permit), so I used my Panasonic on the auto setting, with surprisingly decent results. No editing has been done on the shots I posted (except noise reduction on the shot of Obama above). |

I have just been accepted for some gov't funding to begin my own photography business.....
Since I already have all the equipment required, they supply me with a guarenteed income for the next 40 weeks while I build up my business, and help with a business plan and setting up the books etc etc. :)
My plan is to do on-location photography for portraits, pet portraits (that will be one of my main focuses), event photos on the weekend (races and such)...whatever I can get my hands on. That way there is very little overhead because there is no studio. Proofing for portraits and pet portraits will be immediate on my laptop and for events it will be done on-line.
I am so excited I am shaking. :)

Congratulations and good luck with this venture. This is very exciting news. Here's a little idea for you.

It seems a couple of girls need a little laughter to brighten the day, so here is my rejected (by me) shot for the ABC challenge.

Recycled Sheep Turds
Newest diet craze, low in calories, high in fiber, costs less, and better tasting than most diet foods.
Bob, as for temperature change Sat., Sun, and Mon. it was 100+, and this is our current forecast..

Terrific shot.....left a comment and some thoughts.
BTW, not that you scared me with being prescient or anything, but your comment on my Soft image was right on with your thoughts about my whining at the time.
Thanks!

Very nice shots from the rally, Julianne - thank you for sharing those! I was amazed at how many people had cameras! And you gotta wonder why they'll allow 12 MP point and shoots but not 6 MP dSLRs.... the logic of things repeatedly escapes me sometimes. |

Yeah......I love it when someone with one of those high MP P&Ss gets that look of total confusion when I tell 'em that my Nikon DSLR is "only" 6 MP.

That is a good question, but of course the screeners aren't techies, they just use broad nets for their fishing.
BTW my FZ30 is only 8 MP. Thanks, Jeb, for you suggestion on improving the Obama shot. Unfortunately, I already cropped it about as far as I could without really messing up the resolution. I might try cropping it closer and then blowing it up with Alien Skin, which does a pretty good job of resampling and sharpening. |

Well I guess I let the cat out of the bag in a earlier conversation on DPC. Just recently, after 5 years of parenthood, my 3 (unable to find the right word, Children, teens?) have asked to change their last name. : ) |

I must've missed the earlier statement. To what? Your last name? There's gotta be a good story behind this!
And Ernie, I also missed your great news. Congrats on getting the funding!

Melethia, I read on another thread that you are returning to the sandbox but without your camera this time. Is there a good reason you are leaving it behind? Please take care of yourself, we do not want to be put in the position of missing you! |

5 years ago I married not only my wife, but 3 other young soul’s, changing names was never discussed as it has - and never should be my choice. This last week my oldest asked if he could take my last name before August his 18th birthday. His brother and sister also chimed in and asked if they do it as a group. Today the wife and kids are off to Idaho to visit family, and they have been charged with making sure that’s what they want to do. If on Monday any one of them still wants their name changed, we will start the process next week.
Oh, BTW, damn right I am !!! |

Alan, that freakin' rocks! Congrats!!
And yes, Barbara, I'm going to the sandbox, but only for two weeks and I plan to pack as light as possible. So I'll probably take the Sony and a full battery, but no laptop. I'll be traveling between Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan, with not a lot of time in any one place and a whole lot of time sitting in military airlift terminals waiting for rides. |

Thank all of you, and yes I’m feeling a little prideful, also a bit lonely right now LOL. Its too quiet around here, Oh well I have to get some things ready to sell on eBay, and at a burning rate of 3 words per minute it will take ½ a day to describe what I’m selling.
