Bump to remind you...

I am starting a contest for this challenge. Whoever gets the blue will get a DPC hat from me. One condition, I am adding JMart's rule into it. Blue ribbon winner will not have bugs, flowers or water. Meaning any kinds of bug life, or plant life and water (liquid, just to be politically correct). Also, there won't be hat if you already got one from me which I count only 5 people so far.

Win a ribbon with these requirements, I will send you a free DPC hat :)

Ok... good luck everybody ;)

Well I'll be eligible with my shot but I seriously do not expect to win. Would be nice.

Mwa ha ha, my dasterdly plan is working! Now the field will be cleared of water shots so I can sneak one in, looking unique without watery competition! He he he!

I got my hat yesterday - thanks, Leo!! Looks awesome! ('Cept it's missing the last "e" in Challenge on the front, but never fear, I have a sewing machine and will fix that!)

While you've got the sewing machine out Deb, maybe you could just carry on and make me an entire hat ; -)

Oh man... There was one hat that was printed wrong, and I was planning to use it for myself, kept it away from the other bunch... I sent it to you?

I would be very happy to send you another one, and I am very sorry about it :(

Others are ok though... I make sure next batch will have correct everything :( I feel pretty bad now.

(No wonder I couldn't find the dang thing... I thought I throw it out accidently)

A macro photo of food will get DNMC's ???
My understanding is that food photos are allowed and should not get low scores because of that...

What if there happens to be water in it but it's obviously not the main subject?

Marcus, I'm not sure where you got that idea, but yes, food is allowed. I think EVERYTHING is allowed except flowers or bugs.

So without wishing to get over Entomological about this - if the definition of a 'bug' is something that sits under the definition of 'arthropoda phylum' then a Snail or Slug would be fine as they are Gatropods from the phylum Molluscs (and don't have jointed legs) ?

Is that correct ?

I hope bubeltrubel has her tame snails in training even as we speak :- )

I just tossed my water droplet macro to the garbage bin. I feel it'll be pounded to the ground by the older members who are tired of seeing the same thing over and over.

I feel this thread has unfairly targeted the people who have original ideas about water drops being used in this challenge. My idea was/is great but after reading this thread I feel it will be voted down just because of this thread.
I understand the fact that water drops have been done before but sunsets have also been done before, portraits too, why do we bother photographing people when it's been done millions of times already? <--- Yes that was sarcastic.

Funny how the person that started the anti-water macro theme in this thread won a yellow ribbon for err.... a water drop macro in a very recent challenge. wink wink Sorry Jmart. I just had to point that out. Please do not be offended by my remark.

And since they will now be one of the few to enter a water drop in this macro challenge they will probably ribbon due to the lack of competing water drops. <----- Yes, that was sarcastic too.

Seriously, the percentage of voters who are reading this particular thread is probably small and if you have a good entry of a water drop then you will do well despite what has been said here. Yes, water drops have been done a lot but they continue to do very well (as you mentioned).

If you think that if you have a good water drop shot for macro then I think that you should enter it and not let the relatively few statements here deter you.

edit to add Besides, you are scoring over a 6 again with your current challenge entry so you seem to have a good idea of what works well here.

just get that shot out of the garbage and enter it. Who cares if it has been done a million times, so what, you will get a few haters, but then again, so does everyone.

Just do it man!!

What I am not seeing in this thread are ideas for this challenge. At this time I've got 'writer's block' and I can't think of anything acceptable, much less creative.

Anybody have any suggestions?

There have been a ton of macro challenges, just go browse through those.

I'm going to get a great idea 3 hours before the deadline, turn the house and all my lenses upside down to put it together, take 200 shots, pick one, edit, and just miss the deadline.

Yeah, that could work. I've got plenty of them in my nursery eating my heliconias and birds of paradise. Oh, I know! I could get one of those little bastards and put him on a table of salt and get macros shots of him fizzing up!

Would voters have a problem with that? ;)

edit to add: My son just said "Ooohhh, that would be a cool shot!"

No offense taken. I agree with your comment about drops having been "done before" and I apologise for contributing to you possibly scraping your shot, although I hope you'll reconsider entering it. Reading comments on drop shots has lead me to believe that they get unfairly maligned, but looking at entries by people like IreneM it is clear that a good drop shot will do quite well here and there is just a small (but vocal) minority that is tired of drops.

I'm actually NOT tired of drops, I love them! My comment about adding water to the list was made in jest (and in part a challenge to myself) because I was surprised that a macro challenge intended to limit the most common types of macro shots still included liquids, and I was imagining this challenge might resemble another water challenge right after the water challenge :/ Still, I should know better than to make remarks that can create that type of bias, so I really am sorry for that comment.

Having not shot for this yet, I may still use water in this one since I'm probably in no danger of getting a blue ribbon any time soon (so why worry about the hat) and now it appears I may have even cleared your considerable talent out of the drop field, so my chances for scoring well are even better yet <---more sarcasm.

I bet a great snail shot would do just fine (unless you're being cruel to it :P). On the other hand, I can imagine a fair number of voters might not parse the difference between snails and insects, so venture at your own risk.

LOL I think fizzing a snail with salt might constitute cruelty for some voters (those that have never had snails eating their heliconias). ;)
