I was thinking on and off about an idea for the portraits challenge. I knew that a vast majority were going to be people and realized that if I did the same, I would not be able to compete with the much better photographers here. So I figured that if I'd enter, it would have to be with something different. Alas, nothing came to mind.
But driving in to work today, it hit me. I could have submitted a beautiful side portrait of the face of Abraham Lincoln from the Lincoln Memorial in DC. I could have called it "A Portrait of America". I would have had the uniqueness to make my photo stand out and would have given me an excuse to head into DC last weekend. Oh well. Maybe next time.

Trinch, I've only been here a little while, and I've already learned two things: the best ideas for a challenge frequently occur just AFTER the deadline, and when one is confused about which picture to enter, you will invariably choose the wrong one, and the one you didn't choose would have done better. Aren't those two Murphy's Law things?

That sounds familiar. Thinking further, the columns in front of the monument would have made a nice entry for parellel lines as well. Alas, I no longer have time to head into DC by tomorrow.
However, I think I chose well in my last challenge.
My other option was something to the effect of ....
however, after taking several dozen shots from numerous angles, I couldn't come up with something that would realy stand out, so I went with the bridge. Besides, my original idea was already done by someone else
(then again, so was the bridge idea) ;)
