At least we will have better weather than the last GTG.

ETA: Better bring your CP filters. Going to be a poppin blue sky.

Also, Wanted to put this out here. first weekend in August, Watertown has it's Annual Riverfest, in previous years they have hosted some pretty decent national recording artists. They have also had some pretty crappy music over the years, But this year they have Starship featuring Micky Thomas. This is a free show and a great photo op to capture one of the great song writers and musicial legends of our time not to mention hear some great old songs performed to near perfection. As I just seen this act on TV the other night and it is quite sharp.

Also on the list this year is Dennis Deyoung Doing the Music of Styx.

So if you are a Starship fan or a Dennis/Styx fan, and interested in seeing either of them for free. Let me know. 99% sure you can meet and have your photo taken with the band after the show if you are a Superfan or Powerfan.

Link to Riverfest Schedule

ETA more, Hey, portrait challenges on the block. Are any of you still planning on bringing light gear along? This is an oppertunity for us to be very helpful to one another with lighting tips etc... I will bring everything I got along softboxes beauty dish gels etc, wont bring backdrops as madison is full of natural backdrops. only thing I dont have that I wish I did is some barndoors. will be getting some soon but wont have any this weeknd. I am going to be cutting out around 130-2PM in the afternoon to take my wife and children back home, we then have a party to go to which I will leave around 630 then I am coming back to madison with all my lightgear providing that some of you are still up to shooting. we could do a 1 2 3 Wisconsin Ribbon sweep. lol

Saturday weather update:

Mostly sunny and pleasant! Highs in the low 70's. Can we pick'em or what?

If you haven't gotten your directions and such yet, PM me a cell phone and email address.

Ok, I just give up!! I just cannot agree to anything until the absolutely last moment...cause something always screws it up. Husband came home today to tell me that he has to work on saturday. I have no one else to watch the kids. So, looks like...once again...I am out.

Bring the kids!

If it was just Olivia, my six year old, that would be fine. She has her own digital camera!! She'd love it. But, Nate...he's three and has the attention span of a husband listening to his wife! I'd spend the day chasing them...certainly not shooting or getting to know my fellow DPC'ers! It's more hassle than it's worth.

The best I'm going to hope for on Saturday is taking the kids to the state park and maybe getting to shoot a little.

Two day bump.

Nobody signed up for drinks. Could be a big problem. Anyone, anyone? Bueller?

Seriously, we're talking about maybe the zoo as a late morning destination. Very kid friendly!

Terri, my wife and my 3 kids will be coming along for the morning adventures, 2 girls 8 and 6 and a boy who is 2. So if you were to come with your kids, They would have some peers around.

How about if we each bring our own drinks as they do get a little bit pricey to buy for everyone.

Works for me Ed. BTW, it looks like we have 7 confimed Photographers attending, including me and Smartypants, and my neighbor, a DPC member, but not an active one. Some of my daughter's friends may also join us so when you're thinking portion size for your dish-to-pass or whatever, think 7-10 people and we ought to be fine.

This weather forecast is one of those "pinch me" items. Check it out:

Saturday: Sunny and perfect! A couple of showers & storms are possible very late at night. High 72.

Did someone say Lightning Shots over the Capital?

I'm thinking about it...what is the current itinerary?

The kids are always up for the zoo...well just about any outing for that matter!!
05/23/2008 12:35:09 PM · #67
Starts off @ 9AM with the farmer market on the capital square, then although it has not been mentioned, Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch? I would imagine some sort of snack or drink stop would be in the mix. Then it is off to the Zoo, Which is free addmission if you were wondering. Parking might be a bit of a problem but that is also free. From there I believe it is off to Johns house for the BBQ. Which I am sadly going to miss, But I am going to rush my butt back to Madison as soon as I am able for the night time shooting.

Brian's account is what I'm thinking too. Chances are we'd probably be heading off to the zoo by about noon or so, maybe a little earlier. I'm thinking that we'll eat around 2:30 to 3:00 at my house so people can get breakfast goodies at the market, we can converge on a restaurant on State St. or get snacks at the zoo. Just be hungry by 3.

BTW, Adam pointed out that the Brat Fest is going on and that may drain some people away from the zoo and downtown tomorrow.

Was looking forward to meeting some real-life DPC'ers, but work demands are going to get in the way. Have fun everybody. Sounds like it's going to be a great time.

I have had a change in plans too. I still plan on making the Farmer's market, but I have an ailing relative to go see while I am down here, not too far from the zoo though.

I hope your right about Bratfest taking some traffic away from the Campus area. I have been thinking that with it being Memorial Day weekend more people will be drawn into the Madison area. At least there isn't a football game going on.

Bugz, what lens are you planning on bringing? I was figuring on bringing my 20,80-200, & 300 or 500. Along with my flash & 3x teleconverter. Also it will be me & my 8 year old daughter. She has her own digital camera, a Canon.
05/23/2008 08:52:25 PM · #73
Last post here folks. See you all tomorrow morning at 9 at the Camera Company on the Square (see message above). I've sent my directions and contact info to everyone who's requested it. PM me if you still want in.

Tomorrow night is looking on the clear side (before storms move in late) - maybe a trip out with some telescopes for all you night-sky newbies?

See you all at 09:00! Potato salad is on the stove...
05/24/2008 07:22:05 AM · #75
I will be bringing 80-200 and a bunch of primes.
