I'm looking to get something for outdoor photography to experiment with diffusing light and reflecting light?

Any recommendations?

Is there any disadvantage to get the 5 in 1 style?

disadvantage is they're a complete bastard to fold back up again! Otherwise, they're brilliant for the money.

My 43" once was a whole £12 with p&p.

If you're thinking about getting one, do so. They come in rather handy.

I am looking for a good handheld diffuser online. If someone knows a good place that delivers to the states I would be forever grateful :)

diffusing flash or sunlight?

Flash= onmibounce, or a Gary Fong thing

sunlight= wax paper, tissue paper, a sheet of white muslin stretched onto a frame, or the middle section from a 5 in 1 reflector.

source= ebay, B&H, adorama, hardware stores, home depot, craft stores, Walmart... a whole bunch of other places.

Tez, I would like something that I can hold outside when I do shoots in the sun. I have a reflector just need a diffuser for that harsh light

I bought this reflector

52" westcott reflector

and have been very happy. it is a 4in1 so it has the gold / silver / white and diffuser.

Thanks!

Thats the info I was looking for. I figured the 5 in 1 might be a bit of a pain, but for cost effectiveness probably worth it.

Now I'll just have to figure out which size to get!

You want one about 3 times the size of whatever you think you want to light with it. That's a reasonable starting point.

ah nice!

I figure I'll just go big, cuz I really just plan on using it as an aid for outdoor portraits. I tend to like natural (i.e. budget) lighting!
