As I'm getting more adventurous, perhaps even more daring, shooting photographs in public, I'm being met with more and more strange looks -- and now comments. I like to be discreet -- blend in when I can and not call attention to myself. That, of course, is not on the resume of many good photographers, so I'm having to force myself to ignore or forget what people think or say.
But yesterday, I could only laugh. I was walking near the county jail -- not the most high-class part of town, but safe enough anyway. It's bad enough I'm looking all around while I walk, like I'm in a daze, or worse, a tourist. But anyway, I stopped in my tracks and turned to photograph something. When I turned back to resume walking, a lady (well, a female anyway) was walking toward me and busted out laughing. "I thought you were peeing!" "Huh?" Certainly I misheard her. "It looked like you were peeing!" I could only smile and nod my head, no.
She herself looked like she'd been around the proverbial block a few times, and had probably seen her share of people urinating in public. I should have asked for her picture.
