Having had a paint job on a car ruined by random neighborhood egging, I just wonder how many others have experienced this.

Egg eats into paint rather badly if you don't wash it off fairly quickly.

Ahem. There is the matter of the traditional rites ceremony. You can't be considered a grown up without going through it.

But Art, you made me lean over your ironing board LAST April. I was hoping that would stick (so to speak).

Last I checked, April Fool's Day has come and gone. I have a good sense of humor. I'm happy and feel great today.

Why does there remain a laughing, mocking jester icon on my comments page? And, there's a link there, too, which seems inappropriate for the challenge or for the purpose of constructive criticism. Some had suggested above that this "big joke" would go away when April Fool's Day was over. It didn't! Does this mean the SC is part of the joke? Or, that the SC sponsors, encourages or endorses this kind of voting/comment prank?

What this very hilarious joke does accomplish is.... it adds great weight to the argument .... those who would like to be able to remove unwanted comments from their image, should be able to do so. I strongly support that idea.

Have you used the "report post" button next to the comment yet? I believe that would be your most direct and expedient method for getting SC's attention to a comment you find objectionable.

Yes, before I realized it was a big joke, I did report the offensive nature of the post. No, I will not report this again. I trust the SC received the first report. And, it's never a good idea to tweak again, in fear of incurring their wrath.

I understand not wanting to trouble them with it again. Perhaps a polite note to the prankster would resolve your issue?

As for "incurring [the] wrath" of the SC... I can say I've met several of the SC and have great difficulty imagining them on par with the gods of Mt. Olympus--slinging lightning bolts and causing a tempest to upset our little barques. I think, rather, they may have Bacchanalian tendencies...but I haven't been invited to any of their wine and cheese parties. :)

April fools day, my grandson told me my shoes were untied, I knew I wasn't wearing shoes but I looked and he laughed and said "April Folls I got you". Was it a stupid meaningless joke, yes but it did put a smile on both of our faces! I got my DNMC early on the first.

To the perp. all I have to say is as stupid as the joke is it still put a small smile on my face for that I am thankful.

The comment was left by a concealed identity voter. Not possible to send a polite note to a baghead, that I know of. There is a trust and confidence issue here. Does the mocking jester icon really belong to the person accused in comments above? I don't know, nor do I care. I simply want the rotten egg stain removed, now that the "big joke" has had its run.

Of course it doesn't matter! It's all a big joke, I guess. Just very surprised the SC would allow this to linger. I think I'll pull this same trick soon, since it appears I can do it with impunity.

One joke hust replaced by another... classic stuff, I really like the part of the story that talked about adding 5 inches to our height which was developed by Prof, Ura Schmuck... Great stuff

Since the abomination remains, I've submitted a second report of the offense. Wish I didn't have to do this. But, it seems like there has been no resolution of the "big joke". Actually, no response at all from the SC. Very strange, indeed!

Richard, you take this *way* too seriously. We do know who the commenter is, it's the *second* year (s)he has played the joke, and it's just that, a joke. The commenter has assured us that the comments will be changed, and based on last year, we have no reason to believe otherwise.

Edit: I see yours has, and that you're upset about the jester. Again, it's all in fun. Relax. Have fun.

Why is the abusive behavior tolerated? I've been waiting all week.... very patiently!!! No help from SC. I'm relaxed. I'm having fun. But, I'm intolerant of this kind of crap. Get tough on the perp. Don't take out your frustrations on the paying subscribers!!!!

Richard, it's worth noting that the commenter has committed to replace the entries with actual comments on all 501 entries in the Free Study (by contrast, you've made 479 comments in over 2 years). Based on past experience, I fully expect he'll follow through, and with helpful comments at that.

Commenting on over 500 entries is quite an undertaking, and one that clearly takes time. Why not give him until the end of the challenge to follow through on his promise? Better yet, why not funnel your energy into commenting on as many of the entries as you can yourself?

Richard,

Quite frankly, you're the only person, or close to it, who seems to consider this "abusive" or worthy of a suspension.

Comments here are mostly offensive slams. Constructive criticism is not appreciated. I gave up long ago trying. Sorry for my weakness. Joke/disparaging comments are "tolerated and encouraged" by the SC. This is wrong! 501 joke comments are not worth 1 constructive criticsm. When is the healing of the inflicted damage going to take place. I've noticed that the application of penalties is not uniformly applied. The people who are funny are allowed great latitude. Other members are simply punished. It's not right!

This statement is curious, coming as it does from someone who has been sanctioned multiple times for retaliatory comments and PMs in reply to constructive criticism.

I'll say this again slowly.

He is replacing the comments with constructive comments on all 501 entries.
