Don't you hate it when you go out to shoot something and come back with zilch? I have wanted to return to Punchbowl Falls to shoot the waterfall for a while. Punchbowl was where I shot my Zen rocks for the Purity challenge:
However, to shoot the actual waterfall you need to ford up the river beyond a fallen tree (you can see it in the corner of the zen rocks shot). The weather today was crazy with bright sunlight followed by rain followed by snow. Still, sometimes this kind of weather can produce something magical so I went for it. It's about a 40 minute drive to Eagle Creek and a 2-mile hike in with all my gear. As I hiked I saw some more sunbreaks and even some sun streaming through fog in the trees (that was getting me salivating). I donned my drysuit so I could swim up the river. I got in the water and...it started hailing. I got out and waited in a small cave for about 15 minutes, but there was no let up. Finally I was getting too cold so I took my drysuit off. It suddenly got brighter and I thought it would be a case of Murphy's Law (once the suit was off the sun would come out), but no, it was only brief and never cleared. I hiked back without pulling the camera out except to shoot the hail to illustrate what getting skunked looks like:

I get to go to the southern Oregon coast this weekend and I hope I have better luck. :P

| Yup, I hate when the weather doesn't cooperate and you get nothing to work with. The nice part, usually, is I still enjoy being out and about in nature. I guess "A bad day shooting is better than a good day at work" applies for me. Maybe next time Doc. |

That sucks when that happens. I have to do a shoot later today that involves an outdoor Hawaiian theme....and today it has dropped from mid 30's to bloody freezing and dismal.

We have crappy weather AND overzealous 'security' types to make sure your shoot is cut short when the light is good.

p.s. the whole stone balancing thing is I think a recently popular meme - I've seen documentaries on Discovery and a few YouTube videos about it. Very cool and beautiful...the only rocks that get stacked around here are into a pipe :(
