Here's the discussion regarding those samples at DPReview. Some interesting opinions in there before it turns into another Nikon Vs Canon debate.

My point was from perspectives relevant to the OP's situation.

The fine details that may crop up with the freakazoid equipment people on DP Review are not likely to be germaine to the OP, especially as this is his first venture into the DSLR realm, and I'm not sure how you'd get any correlation from what I stated to the Nikon/Canon debate.

In fact, if you read what I said in its proper context, I said despite the fact that I'm a Nikon user, I recommend the Xsi.

Somehow, I would hardly consider this latest update an untried or chancy choice on any level. They didn't re-invent the wheel here.....

It's pretty hard to go wrong with any of the intro level DSLRs offered by either Nikon or Canon when moving up from a P&S from the same manufacturer.

Actually, I did order a Gerber LMF Mk II knife from there (I camp/hike alot in summer, deep woods), and for some reason, I recieved a used one, and had to return it. But that notwithstanding, I've had no problems with shipping on time, or damaged goods.

(I do alot of deep woods ambling/camping/hiking in the summertime, and that knife is an amazing tool, btw - just a thought for more adventurous outdoor photographers. Note: I'll be taking my powershot sx100 on those excursions, not my DSLR)

Not trying to sway off topic but that knife does rock. One of my good friends collects knifes for outdoor uses and he has brougtht that knife with him on a few occasions when we go camping and it is a very nice knife. I will probably be buying one soon. Him and I were just talking about two days ago, small world. As for the camera I would be willing to go out on a limb and say that it will be a fine camera. At this point you won't be getting any crappy DSLR's from Canon or Nikon.

You'll be 1 of the 2 owners of this lens, Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, on the reported equipment list of dpchallenge camera users.

That's true, but it's a brand new lens. The "IS" is a new feature for this lens, as previous versions didn't have image stabilization built in. They are just now releasing it, with this new camera, I believe.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but that's why only 2 show up on the list.

The reference to the Nikon V Canon debate was a heads up to ignore the posts once they begin. Nothing more and nothing less.

However after seeing those samples from the new Canon it's easy to see it's a pretty big step backwards in terms of noise at all but base ISO. This new Canon body may be a good buy for anyone who favours things like live view and megapixels above image quality but it clearly underperforms in this area, (ISO performance), compared to other current entry level cameras, (and previous Canon ones).
